The San Francisco Giants Week 10 Review!

Numan Al-ShammaJun 25, 2009

I am still hearing the words San Francisco Giants and wild card race in the same sentence. I know they are doing well, winning six of the last nine home games. Fans, do you really think your team is going to the playoffs?

Follow me down the rabbit hole and I’ll show you what I see.

First stop, the last nine home games:

TOP NEWS

Washington Nationals v Los Angeles Angels
New York Yankees v. Chicago Cubs

Team number one: Oakland Athletics.

Big three game sweep here. We beat the A’s! Um, yes, you did, but that doesn’t say much. The A’s have a worse offense than the Giants. Sweeping the A’s only gives Giants’ fans bragging rights not much else.

Team number two: Los Angeles Angels.

The Giants got swept by the best team in the American League West. It was not close, either. Scoring only one run against a Minor League pitcher is not good. It didn’t help that Jonathan Sanchez gave up seven, six earned, in less than 4 innings.

Team number three: Texas Rangers

You swept the Rangers. They are still the Rangers, just slightly better than last year.

As we continue down the hole, I have to give the Giants props though. Strengthening the bullpen is sure paying off so far. They are projected to give up 100+ less runs by the end of the season, than last year. This is great, but on the flip side, the offense is on pace to score 4 less runs. Hopefully this doesn’t hurt the Giants.

Talking about pitching, I need to bring up an important problem. A sore thumb, if you will. Sanchez.

Brian Sabean has lost all chance of dealing this young man. The way Sanchez is pitching there are only two options. Bullpen or Minors. I think he is best suited for the bullpen, for now at least.

I am enjoying watching a Fred Lewis free line up. Nate Schierholtz and Andres Torres are far better all around players than him.

Finally, on the last step, we have the wild card. Do you, Giants fans, truly believe that this team can go to the playoffs scoring than 4 runs per game?

Not in my mind. Especially now, that the Colorado Rockies have been on a tear.

Unless the Giants start winning on the road, I’m sorry fans, but it’s not going happen.

And that, my friends, marks the end of the tour. Thanks for coming and have a great day!
