Milwaukee Bucks Continue Their Trading Ways

Jesse MotiffJun 23, 2009

The Milwaukee Bucks made a splash by trading Richard Jefferson to the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday. However, Bucks' General Manager John Hammond wasn't about to rest on his laurels.

One of the players acquired from the Spurs in that trade was Fabricio Oberto, who was then dealt to the Detroit Pistons for young forward Amir Johnson.

Johnson, 22, started 24 games for the Pistons last season and is entering the final year of his contract.

He averaged 3.5 points and 3.7 rebounds last year in 62 games. His salary matches up almost identically with Oberto's, so the Bucks don't gain or lose any salary cap relief.

Johnson will be another big body that coach Scott Skiles can use off of the bench. His arrival may also be insurance in case the Bucks don't re-sign Charlie Villanueva.

Johnson is a young, talented player who will provide energy and defense for the Bucks. He will be part of the second unit for the Bucks, and may be asked to do even more, depending on how the next couple of months shake out.

John Hammond is intent on changing over the Bucks' roster and bringing in players that he feels will be well suited for Scott Skiles. With the draft on Thursday and free agency looming, the roster has already begun to take form for the 2010 season.
