So History Does Repeat Itself: Lakers 2008-2009 NBA Champions.

Isaac FerminJun 22, 2009

Sorry this article took long. I had to tag my photos, burn music for a friend, and get ready for the parade.

To understand this article more, you have to read the previous one I wrote. You do remember that the trade of Eddie Jones to the Hornets for Glen Rice ended in the Lakers eventually winning the NBA Championship in 2000.

Kobe Bryant Became the unquestionable starting shooting guard for the Lakers and became a perennial all-star. Glen Rice helped the Lakers win the championship one and a half years later after his arrival, but then left to the New York Knicks in free agency.

Kwame Brown was traded to the Grizzlies for Pau Gasol and that too ended in a championship one and a half years later, making Andrew Bynum the guy at center. The Trade that would help the Lakers to a championship has happened twice in the same situation, for the same reason, and to open the door for another future all-Star.

The Lakers win their 15th NBA Championship and there's many people I'm happy for to have finally won their ring.

Kobe Bryant.

I'm happy for him because he can finally shake off that criticism that he can't win it without Shaq. And after this I wouldn't mind bringing back Shaq, because he can win it with him and without him. Kobe has proven that he's a great player but now he's a real legend in his own right and now he's proven that he's a great leader.

Lamar Odom.

Was considered an underachiever, and was said that he would never help a team win a championship. Well he finally got his ring, and to me if he were to leave, at least he got a ring out of all this.

Pau Gasol.

Before he came to L.A. Pau was 0-12 in the NBA Playoffs and was in a Memphis team who had 4 losing seasons during tenure. I'm happy because he finally has the one thing he really wanted for his career and that is a championship ring.

Andrew Bynum.

Mah Boi. Mitch had a chance of trading him for Kevin Garnett, Jermaine O'Neal, and Jason Kidd. I'm glad we didn't make those deals. Some people don't give a lot credit for what he's done for this team this season; giving the Lakers post defence, shot blocking, size, and athleticism. But in the end he gets his 1st ring and hopefully many more.

Derek Fisher.

After leaving for a bit, Derek returns in the most saddest of scenarios. The Utah Jazz release him because he couldn't get medical help for his daughter Tatum where he was at and decided to join the Lakers. Fish was greeted with open arms in his return and when his contract expires he will retire.

Trevor Ariza.

Actually this is more ironic. in the beginning of the 07'-08' the Lakers traded garbage player Brian Cook and decent role player Mo Evans for Trevor Ariza of the Orlando Magic. I bet the Magic regretted that move.

Shannon Brown.

Came off a trade who's purpose was to relieve cap room and Shannon was added by Larry Brown because He had enough of his erratic play and lack of offensive intelligence. For the Lakers he helped them in the playoffs leading to a championship.

Luke Walton.

After failing to get his ring in his first two attempts. Luke Walton finally wins one and now is able to showoff that ring to his daddy. Luke may not be as talented as the main guys in L.A. but is a solid contributor who puts off a lot of effort, and that's what I like.

Adam Morrison.

OK, OK. I know what you're thinking. What has he done to earn a ring? Honestly, not much. But I'm happy that at least there's a positive in his career.

Phil Jackson.

I love this one. Phil gets his 10th ring and surpasses Red Auerbach. And let it be known now that it was a Laker coach who has the record for most championship rings and not a Celtic. Don't give me that excuse that Phil had great players to win a championship. Of course you need great players; Remember Auerbach had Russel, K.C. Jones, Bill Sharman, Bob Cousy, and Frank Ramsey.

Congrats L.A. for bringing another championship to the city it belongs.
