Best Highlights from Sunday's NBA Playoff Action

Joe FlynnApr 20, 2014

The NBA postseason might only be a mere two days old, but it will be hard for any game to top what transpired on Sunday night in Game 1 of the Houston-Portland series.

The Rockets took a double-digit lead with four minutes left before an 11-0 Trail Blazers run (and a healthy helping of "hack-a-Dwight") brought the two teams even. From there, the game was a cavalcade of clutch shots, as Damian Lillard and the Blazers eventually pulled out a 122-120 overtime win.

In San Antonio, the No. 1 seed Spurs could not quite shake the veteran Dallas Mavericks for the better part of three quarters. But when it came to winning time, Tony Parker and the Spurs knew what to do.

In Chicago, the Washington Wizards may have beaten the Bulls, but at least center Joakim Noah got a chance to show off his passing skills.

In Miami, the Charlotte Bobcats managed to put a scare into the Heat, who prevailed with the help of a revitalized Dwyane Wade.

Without further ado, here are some of the best plays from Sunday.

Lillard's Clutch Three

1 of 11

The Houston Rockets took a three-point lead over the Portland Trail Blazers on the most unlikely of occurrences: a pair of made free throws by Dwight Howard.

But that didn't faze Portland point guard Damian Lillard, who immediately fired back with a three-pointer to tie the game.

Aldridge's Tip-In

2 of 11

After a pair of James Harden free throws gave Houston a two-point lead, the Blazers decided to draw up a three-point shot and try for the win on the road.

But when Wesley Matthews' three failed to hit the mark, it was up to big man LaMarcus Aldridge to tip in the miss to send the game into overtime.

Lillard's Game-Winner

3 of 11

Damian Lillard did not save all of his clutch buckets for regulation.

With teammate LaMarcus Aldridge already fouled out of the game, Portland's scoring burden fell increasingly on Lillard's shoulders. And the point guard delivered with a masterful and-1 layup to give the Blazers a one-point lead.

Even better for Lillard, the foul forced his nemesis, Rockets point guard Patrick Beverley, out of the game with six personals.

Parker's Spin Gives San Antonio the Lead

4 of 11

The San Antonio Spurs may have struggled against the Dallas Mavericks for three quarters, but they still have one of the league's best closers in point guard Tony Parker.

Parker caught an outlet pass at half court, drove the lane and pirouetted past the Dallas D to give the Spurs the lead.

Gregg Popovich's Touching Craig Sager Tribute

5 of 11

The entire basketball world was shocked by the news that longtime sideline reporter (and legendary fashionista) Craig Sager was diagnosed with leukemia.

TNT paid tribute to the reporter by having his son, Craig Sager Jr., handle the sideline duties during Sunday's game between the San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Mavericks.

Before the fourth quarter, Craig Jr. interviewed his father's traditional foil, Spurs coach Gregg Popovich. And Coach Pop paid a wonderful tribute to the man: "We miss you. You've been an important part of all this for a long time, doing a great job. We want your fanny back on the court...and I promise I'll be nice. Get back here."

Dwyane Wade Looking Chipper

6 of 11

Miami Heat shooting guard Dwyane Wade missed 29 games during the regular season as he rested his aged, deteriorating body for yet another playoff push.

But the 32-year-old looked rejuvenated in Game 1 against the Charlotte Bobcats, shaking Chris Douglas-Roberts with a crossover and finishing strong at the rim.

Josh McRoberts Goes Bird Hunting

7 of 11

The Charlotte Bobcats may not have won their contest against the Miami Heat, but they did get the highlight of the game, courtesy of Josh McRoberts.

The man affectionately known as McBob drove the lane and threw down in the face of Chris "Birdman" Andersen.

Kemba Walker's Buzzer-Beater

8 of 11

The Heat took control of Game 1 in the second quarter and were on the verge of heading into the break with a double-digit lead.

Then Kemba Walker struck.

The Bobcats guard stuck a three-pointer at the buzzer to bring Charlotte back within seven.

The Worst Shot in Playoff History

9 of 11

Houston Rockets point guard Jeremy Lin shot 2-of-5 from the field in the first half against the Portland Trail Blazers...but this beauty should have counted for at least two misses.

Lin was apparently shooting at an imaginary 15-foot rim.

Beverley to Harden to Parsons

10 of 11

The Houston Rockets displayed the total basketball package in the span of about four seconds.

First, point guard Patrick Beverley stole the ball from Portland's Damian Lillard, then quickly kicked it out to James Harden at half court, who didn't hesitate to hit a streaking Chandler Parsons for the fast-break jam. Beautiful team basketball there.

Point Noah

11 of 11

Usually, an alley-oop consists of a guard tossing a lob to a big man at the rim.

But most big men are not Joakim Noah.

The Chicago Bulls center fired a bullet pass from the perimeter to shooting guard Jimmy Butler at the rim, and Butler finished with gusto.
