Tiger Woods Eyes His 15th Major At Bethpage Black
Tiger Woods is looking to win his 15th major title this week at the wet and soggy venue that is Bethpage Black. This is the same course Tiger won his second U.S. Open title in 2002 and there's no reason to doubt Woods' ability this week.
The weather has been bad all week in the Northeast. Combination of overcast skies and persistant rain has made this course even longer then the 7,426 yards it can play from the tees. The USGA will have to make critical decisions this weekend that will affect every golfer taking part in this tournament.
Woods win at Memorial two weeks ago is just another example of how good he can be when he's on. At 33, Woods still has enough years ahead of him where he could prove if he hasn't already he's the best player to ever play the game of golf.
After last year's tremendous come from behind victory at Torrey Pines on one healthy leg, it makes you wonder what does he have that could top that. Tiger Woods knows this course and his game should be ready come Sunday night or Monday morning for a chance at the championship.
He's been there before and whenever his name appears on the first page of the leaderboard it's a message sent to every player in the field. As long as he stays with five or six shots of the lead early on he will have more then enough holes to make a push at the end.
Tiger's keys to success this weekend will heavily way on his ability to put the ball in the fairways of the tee, and to make all the putts he should make close to the hole. If he can stay away from the big numbers he should do just fine.
Woods has two double bogies in his first round, leaving him at +3 with two holes to play, which all in all isn't terrible, but could have been a lot better. That's golf though, and watching Tiger Woods play I'm sure he's just going to grind it out and get it back.
Woods' game revolves around accuracy and consistency. He's at the age where he's got the experience to regain control from any problem in his swing. Woods is the world's No. 1 and you've got to like his chances this week at Bethpage Black.
