First Article: Summary Of Who I Am and What I Will Write

Michael DrelichJun 18, 2009

I'm new here, and this is my first article, so excuse me if it's a little poorly written. I'm Michael Drelich and I'm that guy who would rather just talk about the sport without complaining about who's team is better.

Having moved recently to the city of Philadelphia from the New York suburbs over in Jersey, I'm surrounded by fans of rivals in every sport. I support the NY Mets, NY Rangers, and NY Giants.

I would also like to say that Philadelphia fans are by far the most devoted I have ever seen. I know everyone from New York can agree, we boo our teams when they lose and cheer them on when they win, but I have never seen the intensity that the Philadelphia fans put out for their teams. Now don't assume that the city of Brotherly Love doesn't love their teams through bad times; just think of it more as tough love in bad times. Now that I'm done giving my praises for my newly adopted city, I'll go on to talking more about myself, the teams I love, my opinions about them.

Now what brings me here is I enjoy sports, I love watching and talking sports. Most of all I love hockey, football, and soccer (but I won't bore you with the latter). Honestly, I'm a realistic fan. You do not need to tell me when my teams are going straight down the toilet and you don't need to bash the mistakes my team made, mostly because I'll be right there critiquing them myself.

For example, I have yet to hear the end of the complaining about Castillo dropping A-Rod's infield fly against the Yankees to pretty much cost the Mets the game, but I'm one of the few not crying for him to get traded. As a matter of fact, I've moved on from it, every player is allowed a few mistakes once in awhile. Just ask Ryan Church, I haven't seen him missing any bags running the bases since his incident.

Now for the NY Rangers, my beloved hockey team for which I have the biggest love/hate relationship you could imagine. They have a good team, they can go all the way, it just seems like they lack any kind of spark within their ranks to get them going when they need a jump start.

I'm just going to move on to the Giants now, because once I get going on the Rangers I'll soon turn this whole article into one about them.

Now, the Giants, what can I say about the Giants other then they just seem to be that team that confuses sportscasters and writers for the last two years.

Ever since the incident with Plaxico Burress they just do not seem to have that same feel to them. Eli Manning does not seem to be in the same groove that he was in during the first half of this past season and the end and postseason of their Super Bowl season.

In my opinion I've always felt that without Plaxico, Manning can still be effective. The main use I've seen the Giants have for Plaxico was as a red zone threat. I've lost track of the number of times I've seen Manning just throw the ball up in the air for Plaxico to catch. So honestly I think part of the Giant's post-Burress era can be made a lot easier to bear if they just had a receiver who can jump up to grab the ball or someone who is just simply taller than everyone that may be trying to cover him. Larry Fitzgerald would be the ideal player, but I don't think the Cardinals will make him available anytime soon and I'm sure there are similar players who would be willing to sign for a whole lot less.

Now that's all I have for everyone for now. I'll be making another post again soon. I'll post more often once the Mets cease running their own rendition of "Another One Bites the Dust" and expect a whole lot of posts once hockey starts getting into high gear during free agency.
