Slaughter In The Bronx
15 June 2009
New York-- This is not a headline from a criminal matter, but rather a description of what happened to the New York Mets in the Bronx yesterday. The Yankees pounded the Mets ace Johan Santana for nine hits and nine earned runs in only three innings that eventually led to a 15-0 drubbing of the lately not-so “amazin’s.” The Mets sent four pitchers to the mound and surrendered 17 hits to the Yankees whose only problem lately has been an inability to beat their eastern division rivals the Boston Red Sox.
Santana picked up his fourth loss of the season in probably the worst performance of his career. A.J. Burnett improved to 5-3, but the question of who the Yankees’ legitimate number two starter is still remains.

Yankees Call Up 6'7" Prospect 📈
Not only did the Mets get poor pitching from their ace, but their bats were fairly quiet too. The Mets combined for only 6 hits and left 8 runners on base while the Yankees eased their way to a 2-1 series victory.
Overall the New York subway series was pretty ugly with game one ending with a little league fashion error and game three a blow-out. This game is the last the Mets will play in Yankee Stadium this year unless the two somehow meet in October. For that to happen however the Mets will need to remain healthy and both teams will need to solidify a solid number two starter.
Both New York teams have their aces in Santana and Sabathia, plus proven closers in K-Rod and Rivera, but a reliable number two pitcher that can get them wins in a tight post-season series has yet to emerge.
