Boston Breakers Broadcast Team Announced
Westwood, Mass. (June 8, 2009) –The Boston Breakers announced its broadcast crew for the team’s two games that will be televised live on Comcast SportsNet (CSN) New England this season. The three-person broadcast team includes Jon Meterparel (play-by-play), Seamus Malin (color commentary), and Greg Dickerson (sideline reporter).
“We are excited to give New England soccer fans the opportunity the see more of our games,” said Breakers President and General Manager, Joe Cummings. “We have a knowledgeable broadcast team that area sports fans are familiar with, and who will give a thorough analysis of the matches.”
The two matches were added to the Breakers’ television schedule after Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) and Comcast Sports Group announced plans on Friday for a live four-game regional television package for the second half of the WPS season.
Both of Boston’s remaining two games against the Washington Freedom, June 24 at 7 p.m. (ET) at Harvard Stadium and Jul. 29 at 8 p.m. on the road, are among the four games selected in the league’s package, and will be shown live on CSN New England. Games between the Chicago Red Stars and FC Gold Pride are the other two matches.
Meterparel has been the “Flashboy” on WEEI’s Dennis & Callahan show since Feb. 2000, and is the voice of Boston College Eagles football team. He previously served as the play-by-play voice of the New England Revolution.
Malin is no stranger to soccer, having called numerous World Cup, UEFA Champions League, and other international matches on ESPN, ABC, CBS, NBC, and Turner Network Television. The 2005 National Soccer Hall of Fame Inductee is also no stranger to the Breakers’ home field, having graduated from Harvard.
Dickerson joined CSN New England as co-host of Mohegan Sun Sports Tonight, and then joined the Boston Celtics HD telecasts as courtside reporter for the 2005-06 season. He also served as in-arena voice of the Boston Celtics from 1998-2002 and is the alternate in-stadium voice of the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium
Beyond game-day coverage of the league’s four regional games, Comcast Sports Group networks will also feature re-airs of the games, interviews with WPS coaches and players on news and analysis programming, tune-in promotions during other sports programming, and on-line video content on digital platforms. Comcast Sports Group will also provide syndicated regional coverage of the WPS First Round and WPS Championship in four markets: Bay Area, Chicago, New England, and Philadelphia.
The addition of these two matches gives fans the chance to watch eight of the Breakers’ 20 regular-season matches on television. Boston has already played three of its six national telecast matches on Fox Soccer Channel as part of WPS Sunday on FSC.
The Breakers return to action following a bye week this Sunday, June 14, at home against Saint Louis Athletica. The game will be broadcast live on FSC at 6 p.m.
