Do You Know Who Won Pocono?
That really was a serious question. I have been on Twitter all day, and also Yahoo, Facebook, and even ESPN and the main topic of conversation is Kyle Busch. Yeah, I know it's a major story and everyone wants to get their say in (I will share mine in a paragraph or two), but can we take some time to express our love to Tony Stewart?
Make no mistake; I have never had mad love for the guy...growing up I couldn't stand him actually, but I can't help but sit back and smile at what he is doing over at Stewart Haas racing. All 2008 it was being said that owner/drivers can't make it in the sport, and here is Tony Stewart.
He has now won two races (the other the All-Star) and is leading the Sprint Series points. His teammate Ryan Newman sits fifth! Stewart's team isn't even a year old yet! Do you people realize how big of a deal that is? I'm serious forget Kyle Busch for like 10 seconds and think about it!
Congrats Tony!
Now that we have given a man that deserves it some much needed props, I suppose you want to know what I think about what happened in Nashville on Saturday Night...maybe you don't, but I'm saying it anyway.
Of course, I would never say that I am correct or that I have any reason to think that I know better than all of NASCAR Nation, but this is my opinion on the matter. I heard yours now you hear mine.
Aside from being pissed that the Monday after a race all anyone can talk about is Kyle Busch and not the dozens of other stories going around (double file restarts, Jimmie Johnson's hair, TNT's broadcast issues, Prelude being moved etc.), I'm actually OK with what Kyle did. I can see both sides of the fence here, and can understand both. That's not to say I agree with both, but I do understand.
Frankly, I am perfectly OK with what Rowdy Man did. Here's why...
1. He had great intentions. It wasn't a Sprint Cup race, so there is no award for pit crews. They don't get to show up in North Carolina and prove how awesome they are and get noticed in the way the Cup crews get. I think Kyle was trying to make his crew feel special.
That being said, there are better ways to do that, but his heart was in the right place, and I give the guy props for that.
I think he is being honest about why he did it, and I honestly don't think that he thought it would cause this big of an uproar. Quite frankly, I think the only reason it has even caused this much stir in the first place is because Jr. Nation hates him and looks to bash the guy at every turn, and there are more Jr. fans than any other (hence the title, Jr. Nation).
Kyle Busch may be slightly arrogant, but in this case, I think he was trying to make his guys feel special and give credit where it was due.
I know some of you think Busch is lying about his reasons for smashing the guitar, but think about that for two seconds. This is Kyle Busch we are talking about Mr. "I don't give a rats turd what you think"...yes that Kyle Busch. Why would he lie to keep people from getting upset? Does that really sound like the Kyle we know? Really?
2. He's going to buy two guitars from Sam Bass. I think Kyle noticed that Sam Bass was a little upset. Like I said, I don't think he thought this through, so I think it is great that he is buying some of Sam's workmanship.
Bass seemed slightly fazed by the issue, but I think overall is okay now. If Kyle was really showboating, then why would he try and make Bass feel better? Why not just say "forget you, dude" like he usually does?
I can't stand journalists who make up quotes just to get a read. Knock it off...you know who you are. We fans have enough going on in the sport today without you making up stories to blow up drama.
3. Someone said that Kyle Busch would never smash the Daytona trophy! That's like comparing apples to oranges! The Daytona award is huge for starters, so I doubt he could even lift it. Secondly, it's not a guitar. I guess some of you missed the symbolism here. It's not the same thing. Sure, both are valuable trophies, but people smash guitars, and don't smash crystal and metal.
4. And finally, It's his! He drove his butt off to win that thing! This is America, ya know, the land of the free. I think he has a right to do with his stuff whatever he wants with it...don't you?
I once bought I die cast car of a driver (not saying who, so don't ask) purely so I could throw it at things for my gravity science project. Are you going to tell me that I was disrespectful to whoever made that car? What about when you are given a gift and rip apart the paper, does that mean you were disrespecting the artist who made the designs of the gift wrap?
It's his and if he wants to break it, let him. He may or may not regret that later. Those huge clocks...ya know the big ones they win at Martinsville, I think; some drivers give those away (I don't blame them. Can you imagine Jeff Gordon with sevem of those in his house? Yikes!). Does that mean that by giving it away they are disrespecting it? No! Kyle Busch won that thing, so leave the kid alone. GEEZ!
