Which Teams Might Carlos Boozer Sign With?
Everyone in the basketball world knows that Carlos Boozer is the most disloyal player in the NBA. First, he tricked Cleveland; they thought that he was re-signing with them but soon found out that he signed with the Utah Jazz. Now he's announced (though not publicly) that he wants out of Utah.
His summer departure leaves him with four options that he should consider.
The first team on his list is Detroit. Rasheed Wallace is most likely going to another club, and if he does, the Pistons will need a scoring big man to fill in for him. Carlos is a go-to guy and always a scoring threat; he is a 20-and-10 guy when he is fully healthy and, on top of it all, can teach the young big men in Detroit.
A second potential destination for Boozer would be the San Antonio Spurs. They need another scoring big man besides Tim Duncan, and the addition of Booz would allow Drew Gooden to assume the role of elite backup.
Of course, Carlos may not want to go to San Antonio because his pay check would be smaller, and he obviously wants a big one this year. Also, the Spurs always look for loyal veterans, and he is not that type of guy. The Spurs aren't much for his big ego, either.
Third on the list of suitors is the Charlotte Bobcats. They also need another scoring big man; the idea in NC would be for Booz to team with Emeka Okafor.
Carlos could be their leading scorer; he's been a producer for years, and Emeka is more of a defensive guy than a scorer. The only thing stopping Boozer from signing with the 'Cats is that they are a small-market and still-losing team.
Finally, there's the New Jersey Nets, who also need a scoring big man, as Yi Jianlian hasn't been stepping up.
The Nets could be a good fit for him because he would form a big duo with Brook Lopez and would undoubtedly impart knowledge to the youngster. Also, New Jersey isn't a big market, but the rumors of them moving to Brooklyn make them more enticing. Getting someone of Boozer's quality would also make NJ a more attractive destination for LeBron or another member of the 2010 free agent class.
In my mind, the most suitable option for Boozer is Detriot; that team suits his playing style and they desperately need a scoring big man like him.
