The No Name Mets: A Lost Citi
Santos? Murphy? Cora? Martinez? These are four of the names that made up the New York Met's starting lineup today against the all of a sudden streaking Pirates. These are the four names that made up the 147 million dollar roster that is second in baseball only to their Bronx neighbors, who have managed to hit more home runs this season than these four players have combined for in their careers.
The Mets should have taken some notes from new Yankee stadium architects when constructing their home. Instead of purchasing a new apple (which was difficult to stomach but probably healthier to digest), the Metropolitans could have developed a Yankee-esque jet stream that would shoot pop-ups by weak-hitting reserve players like Wilson Valdez or Omir Santos into the Shake Shack beyond center field. These players would have had great success and would have won starting spots like a few Yankee players who have suddenly found an unusual power surge (ahem...Melky Cabrera).

Yankees Call Up 6'7" Prospect 📈
But even though they'd really like to, the Mets can't really blame the Yankees for their problems in Queens. Injuries have been a huge problem for the team. Delgado's career could be over. Reyes can't run anymore and Ryan Church is out for God knows how long. Sorry if that sentence seems a little strange but I felt the need to put God and Church in the same sentence. The Mets need a little of both if they want to beat out the Phillies this year.
Still, the Mets need to win games against the Buckos. They cannot lose three straight in Pittsburgh. Their lineup today included Sheffield, David Wright and Beltran. They need to beat Pittsburgh when they have these 3 players in the middle of their order. The Pirates had the brothers Laroche to counteract. This should not strike fear in an opposing pitcher, especially one as talented as Mike Pelfrey.
As the normally quiet Carlos Beltran stated, the Mets should be embarrassed. They need to play better in these games. Although they may be affected by injuries, they cannot lose when their schedules are this easy. They NEED to take at least two of thee from the "Nationals" this weekend.
Sure, the Mets can blame injuries on losses to the Phillies or Yankees next week. But not Washington or Pittsburgh. My Co-ed B-League softball team can beat the Nationals. Stephen Hawking could be their ace. The Mets are a prosperous franchise in a city that demands success. I dare ya, fellas. Give Mr. Met something positive to Tweet about.
