The True Retirement of an Icon
If you guys remember, a few months back I wrote an article entitled "The Retirement of an Icon."
It is sad to announce that most of your predictions were true.
Sources within TNA are saying that Bound for Glory 2009 is the Stinger's last match.
According to numerous sources, Sting plans on making this his final year in TNA and presumably, professional wrestling.
Since his return to the company in 2006, the multi-time world champion has directed his career on a year-to-year basis, hence the one-year contract agreements year after year.
He has been telling people that this year's Bound for Glory pay-per-view will be it for him in TNA. His contract with the organization is once again set to expire shortly before the end of the year.
It will be a sad moment indeed, but if there is a bright side to all of this it is that the kids of this generation were able to see undoubtedly the greatest wrestler of the 90's, and I am willing to argue, ever!
I got into wrestling on the small end of Sting's career in WCW, but looking back at the past three years, Sting put on matches that could rival some of his earlier matches in the late 80's and the 90's.
He never slowed down, and when he put on a match in TNA, it felt similar to watching his matches in WCW. He went out there, injury or not, and gave what the fans wanted to see, a good ole fashion pro wrestling match.
Sting came back, not because of money, but because of his fans. He didn't have to come back. He was set financially, so money wasn't a factor.
Say what you will about TNA, but there is one thing you can't argue: TNA will give Sting the biggest send off in professional wrestling history.
He will get the send off he deserves.
We love ya, Stinger.
