FedEx Cup Standings 2013: Projecting Top Finishers of the Year

Ryan RudnanskyJun 3, 2018

After two rounds at the 2013 TOUR Championship, the one and only Henrik Stenson has increased his lead over top challenger Adam Scott as the best golfers in the world vie for the FedEx Cup trophy.

The 37-year-old registered a four-under-par 66 on the day to close the first two rounds at East Lake with a 10-under 130, four strokes ahead of Scott.

Stensonโ€”who entered the TOUR Championship second to Tiger Woods in the FedEx Cup standingsโ€”will win the FedEx Cup trophy if he wins the tournament in Atlanta, Ga.

Here are my predictions for the year's top finishers.

3. Tiger Woodsย

It's a shame that Tiger has tanked at the TOUR Championship, because he had a good chance of winning if he simply had a solid finish.

But after two rounds of golf at East Lake, Woods is tied for 26th place with a four-over 144.ย

On Friday, Woods was better, but not by much. The 37-year-old registered a one-over 71.ย

Particularly discouraging? Woods had five birdies and no bogeys through the first 13 holes, but notched a double bogey on hole No. 14, a bogey on No. 16 and a triple bogey on No. 17.ย

Tiger's chance of winning the FedEx Cup appears to have gone up in flames after his brutal finish on Friday. Regardless, he has had a fine year, racking up five victories and eight top-10 finishes.

2. Adam Scott

Adam Scott came into the tournament third with 2,000 reset points. He has followed that up by posting a six-under 134 through two rounds at the TOUR Championship.

That included a one-under 69 on Friday, in which the 33-year-old Masters champion posted three birdies to two bogeys.ย

Scott, who has six top-10 finishes (five top-five finishes) and two wins this year, may fall short of the FedEx Cup trophy. That four-stroke deficit may end up being too much to overcome against Stenson.

But he's been a heck of a player regardless, ranked second in the world.

1. Henrik Stensonย

Henrik Stenson came into the TOUR championship with 2,250 reset points, second only to Tiger Woods.ย

The 37-year-old is enjoying a phenomenal year, posting seven top-10 finishes (six top-five finishes), including a victory at the Deutsche Bank Championship.ย

On Friday, Stenson posted five birdies to one bogey, getting off to a fast start with four birdies in the first nine holes. He now has a four-stroke lead over Scott, and you can bet that the Swede can sniff the finish line.

While Stenson hasn't been dominant as far as wins this year on the PGA Tour, he's one of the most consistent golfers in the world. He's come extremely close to winning several tournaments.ย

If Stenson holds on at the TOUR Championshipโ€”and I expect he willโ€”it will be because of the veteran's consistency, not because of his win total.
