5 Young Stars Set to Break out in La Liga Next Season

Samuel MarsdenJun 8, 2018

La Liga, despite possessing a host of clubs that operate an "everyone has his price price'" policy, remains a breeding ground for some of Europe's most exquisite talent.

This past season saw Isco take center stage at Malaga—following the departure of Santi Cazorla to Arsenal last summer—earning him a move to Real Madrid this week, via the BBC.

Elsewhere it was a great season for young Spaniards Inigo Martinez and Asier Illarramendi at Real Sociedad. Meanwhile, Koke shone at Atletico Madrid ,and Rayo Vallecano's Leo Baptistao was good enough to earn himself the chance to link up with Koke, via Sky Sports, at the Vicente Calderon next season.

Gerard Deulofeu and Jese Rodriguez are looking like Barcelona's and Real Madrid's next potential stars. Still, as they are not likely to play significant roles for their clubs next season, they've been left out of this list of five youngsters who could come of age in the Primera Division next season.

Carry on reading to find out who the five are...

Ruben Pardo (Real Sociedad)

1 of 5

Even though he led Real Sociedad into the Champions League before leaving for Rennes, Philippe Montanier's decision-making often frustrated the Anoeta faithful.

One thing they particularly craved was the involvement of young midfielder Ruben Pardo.

Ultimately, the French coach was proved right as the midfield combination of Illarramendi and Markel Bergara led them to a top-four finish. But next season, new manager Jagoba Arrasate will seek to find a way to include Pardo as much as possible.

Arrasate has been involved with La Real at various levels since 2010, and will be well aware of the talent that lies at the feet of the 20-year-old.

Pardo drops deep and distributes the ball extremely well; his introduction from the bench away at Espanyol led to just one example of how he is capable of influencing a game.

And if Sociedad are to have a run in the Champions League, their need for depth will be greater than ever.

Aymeric Laporte (Athletic Bilbao)

2 of 5

To the west of San Sebastian in Bilbao, there's a defender coming through who, after breaking into Marcelo Bielsa's side last season, could become a figure head for his side for many years.

Aymeric Laporte was born in France—but in Basque territory. And after making his debut in December 2012, he made 15 appearances in the league last season.

He's still just 19, but he is expected to feature in new manager Ernesto Valverde's plans for next season.

At 1.90m, he cuts a tall, imposing figure for his age. But having been schooled at Lezama, he possesses a technical side to his game that could draw comparisons with Javi Martinez or Gerard Pique.

With the step into the first team already made, next season could be a big one for Laporte.

Jairo (Sevilla)

3 of 5

You could take your pick from two exciting players for Sevilla, both of whom are currently away at the Under-20 World Cup in Turkey.

Following the departure of Jesus Navas to Manchester City, Sevilla have moved quickly to secure the services of Jairo Samperio from Racing Santander, via MARCA—a Spain Under-20 international.

The winger will turn 20 in July and joins the Andalusian club highly rated following a stand-out season in La Segunda with Racing.

He can play on the left or the right, and his assets are that of a more traditional winger. His close control is excellent, and like Navas, he possesses pace in abundance and seems to enjoy running directly at defenders.

After signing him last summer, Sevilla may also look to use Chilean Bryan Rabello more next season too. The 19-year-old featured mainly for the B team last year but, alongside Jairo, is helping to ease the loss of some big names at the Sanchez Pizjuan.

Oliver Torres (Atletico Madrid)

4 of 5

Oliver Torres is a player who has been on the verge of breaking into a phenomenon for the last 12 months now.

The midfielder, 18, has shone for Spain at various youth levels, but is yet to make a definitive step into the first team at Atletico Madrid.

Towards the end of the past season he did become a more regular face on the bench though, and he will have been encouraged with the fact that he was named as a substitute in the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid.

Known simply as Oliver, he boasts vision and a range of passing that belies his years—his first team involvement suggests Diego Simeone is more than aware of that.

Also in the break out queue at Atleti is exciting right-back Javier Manquillo. The 19-year-old is already proving more than just an understudy to Juanfran.

Jonathan Viera (Valencia)

5 of 5

Jonathan Viera, at 23, is slightly older than the other names occupying this lis. However, following a disappointing first season with Valencia, the appointment of Miroslav Djukic offers him hope.

After a lot of excitement when Los Che captured him from Las Palmas last summer, he struggled to impress as Valencia underperformed and then changed their manager.

At Real Valladolid, Djukic has been outstanding at getting the best out of undoubtedly talented players—see Patrick Ebert as an example—and Viera certainly fits that bill.

If Viera lives up to the reputation he earned at Las Palmas, he'll be like a new signing for Valencia.

Elsewhere at the club there are high hopes for Carles Gil. The 20-year-old impressed on loan at Elche as they won promotion to La Liga last season. He will remain with them for another year as they return to the Primera Division.
