Ryan RudnanskyJun 8, 2018

After the group stage of the 2013 Confederations Cup concluded on Sunday, we are left with four teams for the semfinals: Brazil, Spain, Uruguay and Italy.

Host side Brazil will face Uruguay on Wednesday, while Spain will battle with Italy on Thursday.

Spain and Brazil have looked very strong so far, while Uruguay has some upside. Italy is hurting after losing both Mario Balotelli and Ignazio Abate to injuries.

Brazil vs. Uruguay

When: Wednesday, June 26 at 3 p.m. ET

Where: Estadio Mineirao, Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil

Brazil's combination of defense and scoring will be a major threat to Uruguay in the semifinals. Brazil has allowed just two goals in the tournament (both to Italy), while notching nine goals.

The Brazilians stepped up to the challenge against Italy on Saturday, scoring four goals through the contributions of Fred (two goals), Neymar and Dante. FIFA's post-match statistics show Brazil held possession for 55 percent of the match, while out-shooting Italy, 11-4.

Uruguay ranks second in the tournament with 11 goals. On the other hand, the 2-1 loss to Spain to start the tournament looms large against a strong defensive side in Brazil.

Abel Hernandez will obviously be huge for Uruguay against Brazil. The 22-year-old forward has scored the second-most goals in the tournament (four) while trailing only Fernando Torres and Mario Balotelli in shots on goal (seven). Hernandez scored a whopping four goals in Uruguay's 8-0 blowout of Tahiti on Sunday.

Of course, defender Thiago Silva and company won't make life easy for Hernandez. According to the official FIFA website, Silva ranks third in the Castrol Index Top 10 in the tournament.

Spain vs. Italy

When: Thursday, June 27 at 3 p.m. ET

Where: Castelao, Fortaleza, Ceara, Brazil

Watch: ESPN

Live Stream: ESPN3

Spain, the No. 1 team in the world according to FIFA.com, has lived up to its billing so far in the 2013 Confederations Cup. The Spanish have defeated Uruguay, Tahiti and Nigeria in the tournament.

That includes scoring a tournament-high 15 goals, five of those courtesy of Fernando Torres.

But it's about more than Torres. From goalkeeper Iker Casillas to forward David Villa to midfielder David Silva to defender Jordi Alba, Spain has performed superbly as a team.

As for the Italians, they defeated disappointing Mexico and Japan in the tournament, but they're coming off a 4-2 loss to Brazil. They've scored the fewest goals in the tournament (eight) among the remaining four teams.

On top of that, they will be without top scorer Mario Balotelli, who has been declared out with a thigh injury, per Football-Italia. This is after losing defender Ignazio Abate with a dislocated shoulder.

Italy is a strong side overall, but asking the Azzurri to defeat Spain in the wake of such devastating injuries may be asking too much.
