UFC 161: 5 Memorable Moments from Evans vs Henderson Fight Card

Nathan McCarterJun 7, 2018

UFC 161 was not a night with many memorable moments. Nine of the 11 bouts headed to the judge's scorecards.

Rashad Evans defeated Dan Henderson by split decision in the evening's main event. It was a tightly contested bout that moved Evans back into the upper echelon of the division, and a second straight decision loss for Henderson.

There is not much else to say about the 10 other bouts. UFC 161 was a disappointment and a forgettable card.

Here are five of the night's most memorable moments from the mundane event.

Jame Krause Submits Sam Stout

1 of 5

James Krause made an impact in his official UFC debut. He came in on short notice and took care of business against one of the lightweight division's toughest competitors.

It wasn't the best fight, but Krause got the first finish of the night with a late guillotine.

Stout tried to steal the fight with a lazy takedown in the third, and Krause took advantage. He locked up a guillotine that forced Stout to tap out. It will earn him a nice Submission of the Night bonus.

In a night where only one other fight was finished, it is easy to place this among the card's most memorable moments.

Shawn Jordan Stops Pat Barry

2 of 5

The only other stoppage came in the PPV's opening bout.

Shawn Jordan made quick work of Pat Barry. An uppercut started the proceedings, and once Barry showed he was hurt, Jordan pounced like a tiger.

It took less than a minute.

Jordan won't rocket up the rankings, but the performance gets him back in the win column and earns him a bonus for Knockout of the Night. All in all, not too shabby for the former football standout.

Rosi Sexton Toughs It Out Against Alexis Davis

3 of 5

This wasn't the best performance from Alexis Davis, but credit Rosi Sexton for that.

The former top-ranked flyweight prevented Davis from stopping her several times. The most memorable came at the end of the second round.

Davis had flattened Sexton out and started to unleash consistent ground-and-pound. Sexton tried to buck up and escape, but Davis is too tough in that position. She covered up well, and Herb Dean allowed her to ride out the round.

Sexton showed extreme toughness to grit it out. She never gave up and consistently defended herself against one of the division's best finishers. Sexton earned a lot of fans at UFC 161.

Stipe Miocic's First Round vs. Roy Nelson

4 of 5

Stipe Miocic dominated Roy Nelson. There's no other way to say it.

The most memorable exchanges came in the first round. That is because it shocked most watching.

Nelson was suppose to earn another KO/TKO. He was suppose to make a claim to be one of the top heavyweights in the world and demand a bigger paycheck. That didn't happen.

Miocic was on point both offensively and defensively. His straight punches beat Nelson, and the combinations were beautiful. It was a fantastic performance, but the first round was shocking due to how easily he took care of business.

It was a great night for Miocic.

Bruce Buffer Reading Decisions

5 of 5

This is cheating a bit. It's not a singular moment. However, if you watched UFC 161 you know how difficult it was to pull even three moments out. It was a bad evening of fights.

One thing we got accustomed to hearing was Buffer reading off decisions.

Nine of the 11 fights went to the scorecards. And while 15-minute battles can be entertaining, most of these were not. They were borderline boring fights. It was atrocious.

Buffer had the pleasure of reading the scores, declaring a winner and getting them off our television screens.
