Belmont Stakes 2013 Entries: Odds and Predictions for Every Horse After Draw
The Triple Crown drought will continue for at least another year after Oxbow upset Kentucky Derby champion Orb in the Preakness Stakes. Even without the allure of history, the Belmont Stakes features plenty of intrigue.
A rematch between Orb and Oxbow for three-year-old supremacy will likely dominate the headlines. There are 12 other talented horses with a chance to pull off the upset, however, and several of them are very strong contenders.
It should lead to an exciting final leg of the Triple Crown on Saturday. Let's take a look at all the key information for the race, which is followed by a full listing of the field, a breakdown of the top horses and a complete prediction for the 145th Belmont Stakes.

Top Contenders
Orb
The difference between Orb in the first two Triple Crown races was the final turn. In the Kentucky Derby, he flew out of the corner and charged past the entire field. In the Preakness, he didn't showcase the same late kick and couldn't chase down Oxbow.
It makes the Belmont an interesting test. The third leg is the longest of them all at 12 furlongs. The biggest key for Orb will be preserving enough energy to use that late speed to his advantage. Jockey Joel Rosario must replicate his strong Derby ride.
Based on talent alone, Orb is the best horse in the field and is the rightful morning-line favorite. That said, the distance figures to be an issue, and the lack of late pace in the Preakness is concerning. He needs a very strong bounce-back performance to win.
Oxbow
Oxbow was overlooked heading into the Preakness. He finished a reasonable sixth in the Kentucky Derby and was one of the few horses willing to challenge Orb on short rest. It paid off with a Triple Crown triumph for legendary trainer D. Wayne Lukas.
A lot of credit also goes to jockey Gary Stevens. He came out of retirement at the beginning of the year, and it's like he never left. Once he got Oxbow out front, he set a very reasonable pace on the backstretch, which left the talented horse with enough energy to finish the job.
Just like Orb, however, the aggressive schedule is a concern. This will be the third race in just over a month and is the toughest test of them all. Oxbow showed he's capable of beating an elite field, but everything would have to fall perfectly for him to go back-to-back.
Revolutionary
The horse with the best chance of upsetting the two marquee winners is Revolutionary. He finished third at Churchill Downs. Instead of racing the Preakness, trainer Todd Pletcher decided to let him rest so he could be at full strength for the Belmont.
It's a strategy that could very well pay off. The talent is definitely present. The colt won three straight races, including the Withers Stakes and Louisiana Derby, prior to the Kentucky Derby. He has never finished outside the top three in his career.
Add in the extra rest and it's hard not to like Revolutionary's chances on Saturday. Unless Orb or Oxbow are able to recover and run at the same level for 12 furlongs like they did to win their respective Triple Crown races, Revolutionary can steal the spotlight.
