NBA Draft 2013: Power Ranking Most Electrifying Playmakers Available

Jun 8, 2018

The 2013 NBA draft may be short on superstar talent, but that doesn't mean there aren't some explosive prospects ready to make an impact on the league.

The 2012 draft was all about Anthony Davis, but it was the electric playmaking ability of Damian Lillard that caught the eye of fans. At 19 points and 6.5 assists per game, his production netted him the Rookie of the Year Award.

This year's class sports some playmakers in its own right. These players have the ability to light it up on the scoreboard and create opportunities for their teammates. Here's a look at the four best playmakers in the draft.

4. Shabazz Muhammad, G/F, UCLA

If you're looking solely at offensive ability, Muhammad is possibly the best player in the draft. At 6'6" and 220 pounds, Muhammad has the size and athleticism to get to the rim at the NBA level.

Though his career at UCLA was underwhelming in comparison to the massive expectations he faced coming into college, he did manage to average 17.9 points per game on 44 percent shooting.

Poor defense and questionable decision-making will be the downfall of his draft stock, but the explosiveness and scoring ability are undeniable. In a league where J.R. Smith is averaging 18 points per game with his less-than-stellar defense, there's definitely room for Muhammad.

3. Ben McLemore, SG, Kansas

McLemore is expected to be the first shooting guard off the board for a reason—he's a playmaker.

The Jayhawk star filled up the stat sheet in his freshman season, scoring 15.9 points and five rebounds per game. He has the shooting touch, knocking down 42 percent from beyond the arch, to stretch the floor and has no problem with playing above the rim and finishing on fast breaks.

McLemore wasn't all that gifted as a passer in college, but that could change as his role could be altered in his NBA career. He was expected to score at Kansas.

2. C.J. McCollum, G, Lehigh

Remember when Damian Lillard was a relatively unknown commodity at little Weber State putting up crazy good numbers? Of course you do, that was just last year.

Well we could have another small-school star on our hands in C.J. McCollum. The Lehigh star dominated the Patriot league throughout his career, becoming the conference's all-time leading scorer and averaging over 20 points per game in three of his four seasons there.

McCollum is adept at scoring whether he's running the offense or playing off the ball. He became an absolute sniper in his senior season, hitting 51.6 percent of his long-distance attempts.

Questions linger over his size (6'3", 200 lbs), but critics worried about Stephen Curry's size entering the draft, and it hasn't slowed him down. McCollum has that kind of scoring potential.

1. Trey Burke, PG, Michigan

No one benefitted more from the NCAA tournament than Trey Burke. Michigan's run to the championship game gave Burke a national stage to put his skills on display, and he came through in a big way.

Burke's 23=point,10-assist performance in the Sweet 16 was one of the best individual performances in the entire tournament—and a perfect example of what he's capable of. He's a great slasher who can finish well for his size and averaged 18.6 points per game.

What separates him from the others on this list is his talent as a facilitator. Where Muhammad, McLemore and  McCollum are electric scorers, Burke plays with great vision. His 6.7 assists per game is a great indicator of his ability to dish to open teammates.

Burke is the kind of point guard who can make an offense hum with his skill set.
