'Sugar to S--t,' LaVar Ball Trolls Hornets After LaMelo Was Traded to Wolves

The Charlotte Hornets opted to trade star point guard LaMelo Ball to the Minnesota Timberwolves this offseason, and LaVar Ball thinks his son's former team is in for a rough year.

LaVar said on Ultimate Dads Unplugged that he thinks the Hornets are going to "go from sugar to s--t real quick," but he's ultimately happy with the move because it gives LaMelo the chance to compete for a title.

"When he was on there, I told him two things. I said, 'Yo, you ain't never win no championship just with Melo by himself. What you must do is get is get his two brothers or trade him.' And they traded him the next day, so it's all good," he said (12:10 mark).

The Hornets traded LaMelo to Minnesota in return for Naz Reid, an unprotected first-round pick in 2033, three first-round pick swaps in 2028, 2029 and 2030, and three second-round picks in 2029, 2032 and 2033.

The move perhaps indicated that Charlotte is shifting towards building around Brandon Miller and Kon Knueppel.

LaMelo is coming off a season in which he put up 20.1 points, 7.1 assists and 4.8 rebounds per game, marking one of the best years of his career. The Hornets were close to sneaking into the playoffs for the first time in years, but they still decided it was time to move on.

Whether they made the right call to trade LaMelo remains to be seen, but LaVar believes they'll regret it.
