Watch Brent Barry's Amazing Rap Tribute to The Basketball Jones
The Basketball Jones celebrates its 1,000th episode once the next podcast drops, and former Seattle SuperSonics and San Antonio Spurs (among other teams) guard Brent Barry decided to honor the long-running show with a bit of a tribute.
Barry, a longtime friend of the show, gets an introduction from Inside the NBA's Ernie Johnson, and in starts the beat to Eminem's "The Real Slim Shady."
In a style much like Bob Dylan's video for "Subterranean Homesick Blues," Barry simply goes down the list of every guy who ever played in the NBA with the last name "Jones."
It's stupid, slightly pointless and extremely goofy, but it's hilarious all the same.
In case you're unfamiliar with The Basketball Jones, back in 2006, Tas Melas and J.E. Skeets, the former editor for Yahoo! Sports' "Ball Don't Lie," kicked off a show that would grow into one of the leading sports podcasts in the world.
Along the way they were joined by Trey Kerby and Leigh Ellis, who have given us plenty of humorous commentary for seven seasons now.
Their 999th episode dropped on Tuesday afternoon, with the 1,000th show poised to drop on Wednesday with plenty of looks back into the past of the show.
As far as Barry's involvement is concerned, he made his biggest splash on the show during the lockout when the guys were on tour, and he joined them for an extended interview.
He also recorded a quick video with Melas, revealing that he's a fan of the show. He's been involved sporadically since then.
If you have a chance to give it a listen, and perhaps haven't heard anything from the TBJ guys, the Barry interview is a great one to start out with.
It's quite different from the rest of their stuff, but this one is gold.
So congratulations to a stellar 1,000 episodes, TBJ, and here's hoping we get 5,000 more.
