Mets Earn First-Ever Subway Series Sweep with 4 Straight Wins over Yankees
For the first time in franchise history, the New York Mets completed a season sweep over their crosstown rivals.
Instead of the New York Yankees getting the usual six games against the Mets with three games at each home stadium, this year featured a little bit of a twist. Taking place since 1997, this year's Subway Series instead featured four consecutive games against each other, two at Citi Field and two at Yankee Stadium.
The location, however, appeared to matter little.

Yankees Call Up 6'7" Prospect 📈
The Mets came into the series during a slide in which they lost five of six games. And at 18-29, they were significantly worse off than the Yankees' 30-19.
Still, the Queens side came through during the week in a number of different ways.
In Games 1 and 2 at Citi Field, the Mets showcased great pitching and late rallies. Jon Niese pitched seven innings of one-run ball, which was followed by Matt Harvey's one run in eight innings. In both games, though, the wins came against the bullpen, including a victory over Mariano Rivera in Game 2.
Bleacher Report provided an interesting statistic for that come-from-behind victory in the ninth inning:
The Yankees were unable to stop the bleeding in their home stadium. David Phelps only managed to get one out in his Game 3 start, and the Yanks were thoroughly beaten, 9-4.
The sweep was completed with a 3-1 victory Thursday night, thanks mostly to a 12-strikeout gem by Dillon Gee with his job on the line. Tweeted Adam Rubin of ESPN:
While these teams do not compete in the same league, there is always plenty on the line. The Yankees posted the following on Instagram before the series:
Now, the Empire State Building in Manhattan will be lit in orange and blue to honor the Mets' victory. Via Mets Bro:
The Mets will look to build off this success to get back in the divisional race, while the Yankees must go back to the drawing board in a hurry.
Considering they host their other rival in the Boston Red Sox this weekend, there is no time to relax in the Bronx.
