6 Most Exciting Premier League Summer Transfer Rumours
With the Premier League season rapidly approaching its grand finale, the summer transfer season is beginning to loom large on the final few matches.
While the focus of many football fans will rightly be on the interesting dynamics surrounding the race for Champions League spots and the fight to survive relegation, some of the most exciting stories surround the shakeups that are sure to happen this summer.
Especially in the Premier League.
The top clubs of England have been key players in transfer seasons for the past few decades, bringing in some of the top players from other leagues to bolster their squad's hopes heading into the next season.
With even more money flowing in from the league's lucrative new television deals, one would expect even more action from the English clubs this summer.
So, what are the most intriguing transfers that could be hitting the Premier League come August?
Here are the six most exciting summer transfer rumours heading into the summer.
Edinson Cavani to Manchester City
1 of 6According to the Metro, Manchester City are preparing a ludicrous amount of money for striker Edinson Cavani.
City certainly have the funds to pull off such a move, what with owner Sheikh Mansour investing over £1 billion in the club in his time at the club.
Cavani has made his mark at Napoli over the past few seasons, scoring 98 goals in his 134 appearances through just under three seasons at the Serie A club.
At just 26 years of age, the Uruguayan striker would be a mouth-watering prospect for City, who are looking for a fourth striking option after selling Mario Balotelli to AC Milan in January.
Andre Schurrle to Chelsea
2 of 6According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea look set to make a £20 million offer for Andre Schurrle this summer.
The 22-year-old Schurrle is a German with huge potential and has shone in his time with Mainz and, currently, Bayer Leverkusen.
From Chelsea's point of view, Schurrle could be just what their side needs.
With Didier Drogba and Daniel Sturridge gone and Fernando Torres failing to live up to expectations, the Blues clearly need to address the very front of their attack.
As Schurrle can operate as both a striker and a winger, he could potentially provide the Londoners with goals while giving them another possible route of supply for the beleaguered Torres.
Stevan Jovetic to Arsenal
3 of 6The Metro has played up the chances of Fiorentina's Stevan Jovetic making a move to Arsenal this summer.
The 23-year-old striker has been a hot commodity for the past few years, scoring 26 goals over the past two seasons in Serie A.
England fans will know Jovetic well from Montenegro's encounters with the Three Lions in qualifying for the past few major tournaments.
With Arsenal possibly in need of a fresh face at the striker position, Stevan Jovetic looks like a fantastic option for the Gunners.
Robert Lewandowski to Manchester United
4 of 6For more than a year, rumors have swirled around about Borussia Dortmund's Robert Lewandowski moving to Manchester United.
The Sun has fostered the latest talk in this saga, stating that the Polish striker is holding out for the English champions-elect despite big pressure from German champions Bayern Munich in pursuit of his services.
With Dortmund still going strong in the Champions League semifinals, Lewandowski's talents are already finely tuned for the top level of European competition.
The potential striking partnership of Robin van Persie and Robert Lewandowski at Old Trafford is enough to make this rumour one of the most exciting potential moves of the summer transfer window.
Radamel Falcao to Manchester United
5 of 6Another option Manchester United have apparently lined up for the summer is Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao (via The Guardian).
Over the past few seasons, the 27-year-old striker has emerged as one of the top strikers in the world.
In 2010-11, Falcao led FC Porto to the Europa League title, scoring 18 goals in 16 matches in the European competition.
Since moving to Atletico Madrid in 2011, Radamel has gone on an incredible run in La Liga, scoring 49 goals in 63 matches.
Perhaps Falcao's biggest contribution, though, has come with his national team in Colombia.
Despite the nation's 15-year run without a World Cup appearance, Falcao's six goals has his nation sitting third in a group of nine and poised to qualify for the 2014 tournament in Brazil.
For United, the acquisition of Falcao would be a great step toward another Premier League title next season. Further, with Wayne Rooney probably making a shift to the center of midfield, Radamel would be an awesome addition to give the Red Devils four options up front.
A Radamel Falcao move into the Premier League may be a bit unlikely, but the idea should have Premier League fans already excited for the 2013-14 season.
Luis Suarez from Liverpool
6 of 6Before Sunday, it was unthinkable for a club to willingly sell their best player and the Premier League's top scorer.
After Liverpool's Premier League match with Chelsea, though, that has become a distinct possibility with Luis Suarez.
After an incident that saw Suarez bite Branislav Ivanovic, which is just the latest in the Uruguayan's history of uncouth behavior, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers made it clear to the press that the club may move on:
"There's certainly nobody bigger than this football club, a player or manager. We're representing this great football club, off and on the field.
One hundred per cent players are always replaceable. It doesn't matter how good they think they are. There are wonderful talents here, but we've shown over the years if you lose a player and think you can't replace him, the next one comes. The standards at this club have been made, and that's why it's the institution it is. The history of this club is of respect. Those standards will be maintained long after I've gone.
I'll always speak openly and honestly when I can. If I think people are wrong, I'll tell them. It's happened already this year with Luis. People have to accept they do wrong and, if they do, they have to accept the consequences accordingly.
"
While Suarez' talent is unquestioned, his ridiculous actions could well make the Reds regard him as a liability and look to cut ties this summer.
No matter where the striker may go, his unbelievable antics and incredible talent will make his future a must-see prospect.
It's not typical that the Premier League exit of a 26-year-old coming off a top scorer award would be an exciting prospect, but nothing about Luis Suarez is very typical.
