WrestleMania 29 Lineup: Complete Look at 10-Match Field Before PPV Kicks off

Ethan GrantJun 7, 2018

After months of waiting, match-making and build-up through various WWE outlets, WrestleMania 29 is set to kick off on Sunday night at MetLife Stadium.

It might feel like deja vu at the top of the card, as John Cena and The Rock prepare to face-off in the main event for the second straight WrestleMania. Although several feuds have carried over from year-to-year in this event's illustrious history, this will be the first time that the headlining match is the same from the previous year.

With Triple H also feeling the pressure with retirement looming and the Undertaker preparing to put his 20-0 career WrestleMania record on the line against the always-disrespectful CM Punk, this year's marquee WWE event has plenty of storylines throughout its 10-match card to keep you tuned in to the action on Sunday night.

TOP NEWS

WRESTLING: OCT 02 AEW Dynamite/Rampage Pittsburgh
Monday Night RAW

WWE boss Vince McMahon gave us a sneak preview of the set-up on Twitter on Friday, something many WWE fans have probably already checked out. If you haven't here's your chance:

Although the matches have been confirmed for quite some time and the build-up for these rivalries have been extenuated with the company's weekly matches on different media outlets, there's no better time to take one final look at the WrestleMania 29 card than right now.

Check out the accompanying sections for a complete look at all the matchups from this epic card.

Intercontinental Championship (Singles Match, Pre-Show)

Wade Barrett (c) vs. The Miz

Barrett has become somewhat of a fan favorite over the course of his reign as the Intercontinental champ, but there's little doubt The Miz is also one of the best in the business when he's on point.

Since contending for the title at WrestleMania 27, we haven't seen much from Miz, in part because his movie career has picked up a little bit and there have been other stars emerge in the wake of his dismissal from the WWE spotlight.

Although this is a pre-show match that can be found at WWE.com, YouTube and on Facebook (via WWE.com), there's plenty of material that should make for a good match. Miz defeated Barrett on Raw on March 25, and there's always fireworks when Miz announces on Wednesday night's WWE Main Event show.

Although some expect Miz to win this one without much contest, Barrett has proven his worth as a champion. It should be a good open to the pay-per-view card.

Eight-Person Mixed Tag-Team Match

Tons of Funk (Tensai and Brodus Clay) and The Funkadactyls (Cameron and Naomi) vs. Team Rhodes Scholars (Cody Rhodes and Damien Sandow) and The Bella Twins (Brie and Nikki Bella)

The surprise face turn for Tensai in his tag-team partnership with Brodus Clay has been quite the comic relief for the WWE of late, in large part because of the two behemoths gracing us with some dance moves before and after each match.

As part of this eight-person tag team match, the pair will join Cameron and Naomi as they prepare to square off against the almost-forgotten Rhodes Scholars and The Bella Twins.

Unless the company is planning a solo move for Cody Rhodes (a widely-anticipated move from fans everywhere) it makes more sense for the WWE to push the latter foursome in this match.

Tensai has re-invented himself so far with Clay, and the pair could be headed for a serious push as a tag-team duo.

Either way, expect the dance moves and insults to be flying in this match. Only men can wrestle men and women can wrestle women in this eight-person match, and the heel team of the Scholars and Twins might have some tricks up their sleeves to advance past the funky foursome.

Singles Match

Chris Jericho vs. Fandango

As one of the WWE's all-time greats, six-time World Champion Chris Jericho is in one of the most random matches of the current card.

Although Fandango has gained steam during this pair's feud, there are some (including B/R's own Michael Dunlap) who think that this pairing is a slap in the face to Y2J.

It's the in-ring debut for Fandango, a character that has refused to participate in organized competition until announcers learn how to correctly pronounce his name.

After pouring fuel on the fire by attacking Jericho before a loss to Jack Swagger, Fandango then attacked a broken-down Jericho following his match with Dolph Ziggler on March 25's Raw.

The storyline is there, but some aren't buying it. It will be up to fans to be the judge of the success of a WWE legend vs. a WrestleMania first-timer.

No Holds Barred Match for Triple H's Career

Triple H (with Shawn Michaels) vs. Brock Lesnar (with Paul Heyman)

Could Triple H be forced to retire with buddy Shawn Michaels (a former WrestleMania retiree himself) in his corner?

That's what's on the line for both parties on Sunday night, as the mastermind that is Paul Heyman has raised the stakes for Brock Lesnar's return to the WWE spotlight. Lesnar's undefeated mark against Triple H is a draw for the upset (1-0), but Triple H clearly has the most to lose in this match.

With the odds stacked against him and the weight of buddy Michaels, family members Vince and Stephanie McMahon watching in the wings and Lesnar staring him down, Triple H will try to both avenge his last loss to Lesnar while avoiding Michaels' fate in this WrestleMania No Holds Barred match.

WWE Tag Team Championship Match

Team Hell No (Kane and Daniel Bryan) (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler and Big E Langston

The tag-team arrival of Dolph Ziggler and in-ring debut for Big E Langston could be a big one.

Against the champs—Team Hell No—Ziggler and Langston have their work cut out. It's been a lengthy title reign for the current champions, but a break-up might be looming with a loss to the newcomers at WrestleMania.

In other news, Ziggler's hold on the Money in the Bank briefcase makes him a candidate for both the World Title and the Tag Team Title, always a prestigious turn of events when one fighter can lay claim to both belts.

With Ziggler likely keeping an eye on the Swagger/Alberto Del Rio match, will he and Langston have the focus and talent to knock off one of the company's better duos in this match? If so, we could see the end of Team Hell No and the start of a new reign.

Singles Match

Ryback vs. Mark Henry

It's World's Strongest Man vs. another one of the world's strongest men in this singles match.

Ryback is looking to get back on track after being held out of some of the bigger pay-per-views over the past few months, and will have to get past an always-hungry (pun not intended, but accepted) Mark Henry to do so.

The feud has been played out over the past few weeks and will likely center on Ryback's ability to get Henry off the ground—if he can do so, expect Ryback to walk away the victor in a battle of two of the sport's most imposing physical specimens.

Six-Man Tag Team Match

Sheamus, Randy Orton and Big Show vs. The Shield (Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns)

There's heel-turn potential all over this card, but Sheamus is the character most likely to be sabotaged with his choice in partners for this six-man match.

Both Randy Orton and Big Show are coming into this match with heel potential, and it's clear that Sheamus didn't want Show to be part of his clique as it prepares to take on the Shield. Sheamus has no other choice now, and must do his best to avoid a letdown with his partners as a question mark.

Against the relatively new Shield, this is a huge match for both sides.

The Shield are making their WrestleMania debut, and have still yet to lose on WWE TV. While a win for Sheamus and Orton would accomplish the pair's initial task of taking down the Shield (possibly for good) it won't be easy with three of the company's most-hated competitors clearly a draw for discussion between fans.

Singles Match

The Undertaker vs. CM Punk (with Paul Heyman)

While Cena and the Rock headline the card, this could be the match of the night.

There are so many storylines between this two it's hard to keep up these days. Taker's 20-0 record in WrestleMania competition has come under fire by Punk in the days leading up to this event, as the young superstar tries to become the first-ever opponent to take down the Deadman.

Punk got under Taker's skin by taking Paul Bearer's urn, and the Dead Man has ensured us all that keeping his friend's memory alive with a 21st straight win at WrestleMania will do just that.

With personal, professional and long-reaching (future matches between the two) on the line, expect this match to grab early headlines and possibly overshadow the rest of the card by the time the evening is over.

World Heavyweight Championship (Singles Match)

Alberto Del Rio (with Ricardo Rodriguez) (c) vs. Jack Swagger (with Zeb Colter)

With championship and racial implications on the line, both Alberto Del Rio and a revamped Jack Swagger will enter the ring at WrestleMania—with the help of their managers, to boot.

Either way, expected a big push for the winner.

Del Rio has been one of the top faces in the company for quite some time now, and the WWE is clearly intent on extending his story as a good guy with another title victory.

However, Swagger is another candidate to be a top heel, and when you add in the storyline that he and Colter are against illegal immigrants, it could start to hit national audiences more frequently.

It's a match that could go either way, and could be the first time Swagger is back on top of his WWE division in quite some time.

WWE Championship (Singles Match)

The Rock (c) vs. John Cena

In the match we've all been waiting for, the Rock and John Cena will square off at MetLife Stadium.

While some feel that Rock's place as the champion is just a move to carry WrestleMania to potential viewers, the company is also placing its biggest star in the next installment of the WWE video game. Stephanie McMahon reported the news on Twitter:

We've seen these two champions square off before, and both are potential faces for the top of the WWE roster.

There can only be one winner, however, and future matches between the two likely hinge on a Cena victory in this match. However, the Rock is the People's Champ for a reason, and he brings more intensity to this kind of atmosphere than many who have ever graced the ring can.

For those reasons, Cena and Rock should be must-see TV. With all 10 matches now lined up for your enjoyment, only one hurdle remains—stay glued to the epic pay-per-view on Sunday night.
