25 Matchups We Can't Wait to See in 2013
The college football season is complete and it is time to look ahead to the 25 most-anticipated match-ups of the 2013 season.
As usual, there are some out-of-conference games that will be very entertaining early in the season, but the meat of the schedule comes in conference play and readers might notice a bit of an SEC feel.
It all kicks off Aug. 31 and will roll into December.
Here are the 25 most-anticipated match-ups of the 2013 college football season from No. 25 all the way to No. 1.
Honorable Mention
1 of 26Here are a few games that did not quite make the list, but will still be much anticipated this coming season.
Oregon vs. Tennessee - Saturday, September 14
USC vs. Notre Dame- - Saturday, October 19
UCLA vs. Nebraska - Saturday, September 14
Utah State vs. USC - Saturday, September 21
Nebraska vs. Michigan - Saturday, November 9
25. Florida vs. Miami (FL)
2 of 26When: Saturday, September 7
These two teams square off September, and this season expect a very competitive game, renewing a rivalry game that has not been played since 2008.
The youth of Miami should be more mature this season and will get Florida all it can handle.
The Florida defense is going to be very strong, and Miami is a sleeper for the ACC title.
Even though the Hurricanes will not be ranked real high to begin the year, this is a game that could vault them up the rankings.
24. UCLA vs. Oregon
3 of 26When: TBA
There could be a lot on the line when these two teams square off as they are the cream of the crop when it comes to the Pac-12 along with Stanford.
UCLA is likely the most talented team in the Pac-12 South and Oregon will be competing for a national championship.
This one will be very entertaining to watch with two explosive offenses, led by dynamic sophomore quarterbacks.
Certainly one of the biggest Pac-12 games of the 2013 regular season.
23. TCU vs. Oklahoma
4 of 26When: Saturday, Oct. 5
Oklahoma is probably not going to be as good as it was in 2012 with quarterback Landry Jones having graduated and some key contributors moving onto the NFL early.
TCU on the other hand should likely be much better than its 7-6 record from the 2012 season.
It will be the second year in the Big 12 for the Horned Frogs, and this early season matchup will give one of these teams a heads up in conference play.
The winner of this might be the in driver's seat for the Big 12 crown.
22. Virginia Tech vs. Alabama
5 of 26When: Saturday, Aug. 31
This will likely be the most anticipated game of the first weekend of the season and could be even bigger if Virginia Tech quarterback Logan Thomas decides to come back for his senior season.
Alabama is coming off the national championship and will likely be the No. 1 team in the country to begin the year.
Virginia Tech might not even be ranked, but coming off a 7-6 season, Frank Beamer and his squad will have a lot to prove.
The game will be played in Atlanta at the Georgia Dome.
21. Oklahoma vs. Notre Dame
6 of 26When: Saturday, September 28
Last season, many thought Oklahoma would ruin the perfect year the Irish were having in Norman. That was not the case as the Fighting Irish dominated.
This year the game is in South Bend and Notre Dame will likely be the favorite coming in.
Oklahoma will be a completely different team in 2013, and Notre Dame will be very similar on both sides of the ball.
Could it be a bit of a different story this time around?
20. Oregon State vs. Oregon
7 of 26When: TBA
The Civil War is played annually toward the end of the season and is as good as it gets when it comes to Pac-12 football.
Oregon is going to be one of the top five teams in the country and it looks like Oregon State is going to be very talented once again.
There is a chance that the Ducks could come into this one with a shot to play in the national championship.
Can Oregon State go on the road and ruin those hopes?
19. Oklahoma at Oklahoma State
8 of 26When: Saturday, December 7
What better way to close out the regular season than with these two teams? There is no question that these two will be near the top of the Big 12.
While it is not likely they will contend for a national title, a Fiesta Bowl berth and the Big 12 championship could be on the line.
Points always seem to come easy in this one, and the 2013 season should be no different as two of the best offenses in the country will go at it.
If the game is anything like the 51-48 overtime matchup last season, fans will be very pleased.
18. Clemson vs. South Carolina
9 of 26When: Saturday, November 30
These two teams play at the end of the regular season every year, and 2013 will be no different.
South Carolina manhandled Clemson in 2012, but the Tigers offense is one of the most talented in the country once again.
The Gamecocks will have Jadaveon Clowney back for his junior season and these two teams are two of the best in the nation.
This game just might have BCS implications on the line.
17. TCU vs. Oklahoma State
10 of 26When: Saturday, Oct. 19
Right in the middle of the season, this game is one of the biggest of the year in the Big 12.
TCU will bring a very talented defense to this one and Oklahoma State possesses one of the best offenses in the country.
These are two sleeper teams to not only contend for the conference crown, but to put together double-digit win seasons and be in the running for an at-large BCS berth.
Tune in as Stillwater will be rocking for this one.
16. Florida vs. Florida State
11 of 26When: Saturday, November 30
With how much talent these two teams have, it looks like the Florida-Florida State rivalry is renewed and could be good for quite some time.
Both were perennial top teams during the 2012 season and 2013 appears like it will not be much different.
While neither is likely to be as good as it was in 2012, both will still be national powers in the coming years.
No question that these will be two of the best defenses in the country in 2013.
15. LSU vs. TCU
12 of 26When: Saturday, Aug. 31
While Virginia Tech-Alabama may have an argument, this just might be the most entertaining game of opening weekend.
It will be played at Cowboys Stadium and LSU will be its usual self. Les Miles and his group figures to reload despite losing nearly half of its defense early to the NFL draft.
The running game will still be there for the Tigers and they will need it against a TCU team that will be hungry to get the bad taste from last season out of its mouth.
Expect a very low-scoring defensive battle, similar to a SEC game.
14. Georgia vs. Clemson
13 of 26When: Saturday, Aug. 31
This is another very enticing game in August. Georgia and Clemson will square off in a game that pits possibly the best offense in the SEC against the best offense in the ACC.
Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray will be back for his senior as will Clemson signal-caller Tajh Boyd.
The Bulldogs return a duo of running backs that dominated the SEC last season and Boyd will have plenty of weapons of his own.
Expect this to be the polar opposite of the LCU-TCU game on the same day. Not a bad way to kick off the college football season.
13. Florida vs. South Carolina
14 of 26When: Saturday, Nov. 16
This is the first of many SEC battles that are highly anticipated. South Carolina and Florida will be two of the top teams in the east, along with Georgia.
There will be plenty on the line when these two teams do battle.
Another added dimension to this game is South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier going up against his former team once again.
BCS implications could be huge in this game.
12. Florida State vs. Clemson
15 of 26When: TBA
There is not much doubt that these two teams will once again be battling for the ACC title and this game will likely decide the winner of the Atlantic Division.
Florida State loses plenty of talent, including quarterback EJ Manuel, but with the way Jimbo Fisher recruits, there is still top-10 talent in Tallahassee.
Clemson not only has quarterback Tajh Boyd coming back, but also receiver Sammy Watkins.
This is the premier game in the ACC next season.
11. South Carolina vs. Georgia
16 of 26When: Saturday, September 7
There is always a very good early-season SEC game, and in 2013 this will be that game.
These two teams are not only two of the best in the SEC, but also quite possibly two of the top 10 in the country.
It will tell us a lot about where these two squads are headed.
Expect a major defensive battle between these two very talented teams.
10. Oklahoma vs. Texas
17 of 26When: Saturday, Oct. 12
It seems like every year this is the premier game in the Big 12, and the 2013 season appears to be no different.
Once again, these two teams will square off at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas. Texas will have a similar team to what it had last year and Oklahoma might not be quite as good.
These two teams do not like each other and the Red River Rivalry is the greatest in the Big 12 and one of the best in college football.
The 2013 game will be no different with so much likely to be on the line.
9. Notre Dame vs. Stanford
18 of 26When: Saturday, November 30
The season finale for these two teams is the biggest non-conference game of the season and could have national title implications.
Stanford will once again be one of the top teams in the country and Notre Dame is a perennial top 10 team once again.
We all know what happened when these two teams met in South Bend last season.
If we get that drama once again, this will be another thriller.
8. LSU vs. Georgia
19 of 26When: Saturday, September 28
This is another major SEC battle that will likely pit two of the top 10 teams in the country.
It will be an interesting matchup because the Georgia offense is one of the best in the country and likely the most talented in the SEC.
On the other hand, LSU is going to once again have a very talented defense.
This is just another in a long line of marquee SEC games for the 2013 season.
7. Florida vs. LSU
20 of 26When: Saturday, October 12
Next up is another SEC matchup and once again it features LSU.
The opponent this time will be the Florida Gators. These are two of the top defenses in the entire country and the success for these two teams will weigh heavily on the play of their quarterbacks.
Both Zach Mettenberger and Jeff Driskel have had a year to develop and will be relied upon more heavily in 2013.
The success of those quarterbacks will go a long way toward the success of each of these two teams.
6. Texas A&M vs. LSU
21 of 26When: Saturday, Nov. 23
We have LSU once again as the Tigers will take on Texas A&M the second-to-last game of the season.
LSU was one of the two teams to knock off Texas A&M last year, and Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel will be looking to overcome the 24-19 loss his team suffered last season.
The Tigers' defense was one of the few that were able to slow down Manziel last season.
Will they be able to duplicate that in 2013?
5. Florida vs. Georgia
22 of 26When: Saturday, November 2
The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party will be in Jacksonville this season during the first weekend in November.
These two teams simply do not like each other, and it will be one of the most anticipated games of the entire season.
The Bulldogs ruined the Florida Gators perfect season in 2012 and it will be payback time.
Florida has a very talented defense, but the Georgia offense will be one of the best it faces all season.
4. Ohio State vs. Michigan
23 of 26When: Saturday, November 30
This just might be the greatest rivalry college football has to offer, and with both teams back to being national powers, the game will only get better.
Ohio State is likely to be one of the top five teams in the country, and Michigan will also be nationally ranked.
Since the game is in Ann Arbor, that makes it that much more interesting. There is a chance Ohio State could come into this game undefeated and a win away from playing for the national championship.
How wild would this one be if that was the case?
3. LSU vs. Alabama
24 of 26When: Saturday, November 9
Over the past few years, this has been the most highly anticipated game of the season, and 2013 will not be any different.
These two teams simply do not like each other. While Alabama might have more talent coming into the season, this game is never short on drama.
LSU had Alabama on the ropes last season before giving the game away.
This year it is in Tuscaloosa and it will be the most challenging game on the LSU schedule. Look for this one to be another thriller.
2. Oregon vs. Stanford
25 of 26When: TBA
There is a chance that both of these teams will be in the top five when they square off.
We all know about Stanford ruining the national title hopes of Oregon last season. Could that be the case again in 2013?
The Ducks will once again have one of the best offenses in the country, but Stanford as always will have a very talented defense.
Outside of the SEC, this is the premier game of the 2013 college football season.
1. Alabama vs. Texas A&M
26 of 26When: Saturday, Sept. 14
Topping the list is another SEC tilt. Johnny Manziel and his Texas A&M Aggies went on the road and ruined Alabama's perfect season in 2012.
The Crimson Tide will try to enact some revenge, but will have to do it on the road in College Station.
What makes this game even better is how early in the season it is and the rivalry that is brewing between these two teams.
With it being the third weekend of the year, there is not going to be much waiting involved. This is the premier game of the 2013 college football season.
