Sather To Play Love Guru To Tortorella And Cinderella If Avery Returns To NYC
Many people love Sean Avery, but the new coach of the New York Rangers does not appear to be one of them.
Avery has been linked romantically to the Hollywood actress Elisha Cuthbert, Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Rachel Hunter, and Calvin Klein's ex, Kelly.
Hollywood Gossip once asked, "Is Sean Avery cheating on Mary-Kate Olsen with Lake Bell?"
People magazine voted Avery one of the 'sexiest men alive' the same year NHL players voted him 'most hated hockey player in the league'.
He was a fan favorite in Madison Square Garden, considered the spine of the team, but was the kind of hockey player fans everywhere else loved to hate.
The troubled forward could be put on re-entry waivers by Dallas on Monday, according to CBC Sports and other sources, reports, and rumours. Sean Avery may be on the verge of returning to the New York Rangers.
Media reports on Saturday, citing an NHL source, said the Dallas Stars are preparing to place Aver on re-entry waivers by Monday, bringing him back from the American Hockey League's Hartford Wolf Pack.
That would open the door for the Rangers or another club to claim Avery. However, John Tortorella, the Broadway Blueshirts new coach has been critical of Avery.

During his time as a commentator on TSN, a Canadian cable sports channel, Tortorella ranted about Avery, saying he did not belong in the NHL.
But Rangers' general manager Glen Sather told Tortorella, "Over time you learn to love him." Sather may have made working with Avery one of Tortorella's conditions of employment with the Rangers.
Avery is in his seventh season of pro hockey, having gone from the Owen Sound Platers and Kingston Frontenacs of the OHL to the Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings as an undrafted rookie. He had 304 PIMs with the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks, then led the league in penalties for two years with the Los Angeles Kings.
In his last season in New York, he had 15 goals and 18 assists, including some big goals at key moments, plus 154 penalty minutes, not to mention The Avery Rule, playing a key role in taking New York through a strong playoff run.
After beating the New Jersey Devils in the playoffs, Avery was a celebrity intern at Vogue, was guest editor at Men's Vogue, and posted a workout video online on their website. An article he wrote for Men's Vogue, about being an intern at Vogue, has inspired a movie now being made by New Line Cinema.
The movie is described as a romantic comedy like The Devil Wears Prada. Avery will appear in Gap ads in the fall.
Some sports pundits said the NHL was too hard on Avery as his six game suspension for talking on television was more severe than the punishment given to hockey players for violent hits and concussion-causing plays on the ice.
The NHL sent Avery to 'anger management' for trash talking on TV and when he returned to hockey he was described as Deepak Chopra on skates. Chopra appeared in the Mike Myers hockey movie called The Love Guru, which was nominated for several Razzies, and explained that the key to being loved by others is, paradoxically, loving yourself.
The Love Guru was about the new star of the Toronto Maple Leafs and his love life. The guru helped the hockey star with his love life, he got back in the game, and the Leafs won the Stanley Cup.
After the NHL suspended Avery and sent him to Anger Management, the Dallas Stars did not invite him back to play with their team. While he was out of hockey, rumours had him going to Russia to play in the newly formed KHL with former Ottawa Senators goalie, Ray Emery.
However, Glen Sather, GM of the Rangers, talked to Brett Hull, the GM of the Dallas Stars who signed Avery to a multi-year multimillion dollar contract, and arranged to have the leftwinger known as The King Of The Agitators, play in the AHL with the Hartford Wolf Pack.
The Rangers won ten and lost only two games to start the season but a February slump had them heading out of the playoffs. They recently won two and lost ten.
The New York Rangers have been called 'vanilla', lately. They are hoping the return of Sean Avery will add toughness to their team and spark their talented but underachieving stars—Chris Drury, Scott Gomez, Marcus Naslund, and Wade Redden—into playing like Stanley Cup contenders again, with the help of the new coach.
