Obviously, one of the key matchups to watch this season will be between the Hurricanes and the Golden Knights after their meeting in the Stanley Cup Final. The two teams will first matchup in December and then will meet again in January. Vegas will be looking to take both of those games after having its season ended by Carolina.

This season will also be interesting given the league's decision to move the schedule from 82 to 84 games. Each team will play two home and two road games against division opponents, as well as two home games and one road game against four conference foes.

Teams will also take on opposite conference teams once at home and once on the road.

Perhaps the most notable change will be the increase in Monday afternoon games.

"These games further the league's commitment to deepening its connection with international fans and growth in European markets, as well as driving brand awareness for NHL clubs internationally," the NHL said in a statement.

The 2026-27 season begins on Sept. 29, while preseason action will begin 10 days prior. The season comes to a close on April 10, followed by the start of the playoffs about a week later.
