LA Clippers: 5 Nightmare Scenarios for Clippers Fans in 2013
The Los Angeles Clippers are an up-and-coming NBA team that made the playoffs last season for the first time since 2006.
They have two young All-Stars in Blake Griffin and Chris Paul and a surrounding cast highlighted by Jamal Crawford, Grant Hill and Caron Butler.
The team has nowhere to go but up.
However, that’s assuming everything goes according to plan, but what if disaster strikes? Here are five ways the Clippers season could become a disaster.
Either Chris Paul or Blake Griffin get injured
1 of 5I’m talking about a major injury, something that could have either one out for the season.
Griffin has had a few injuries during his career, including a stress fracture in 2010 that kept him out for the entire season.
Chris Paul is also no stranger to injuries, and it’s very possible that a major injury could sideline him as well.
If either player gets injured, it is safe to assume the Clippers will once again be in the lottery, definitely not what Clippers fans want to see this summer.
Chris Paul Does Not Sign an Extension
2 of 5While this is related to next season more than anything, you have to think that an unresolved contract situation brings some tension to the locker room.
I am not going to compare this to the Dwight Howard mess that is ongoing, but that is definitely the worst-care scenario.
Even if this season goes as planned, if CP3 walks, the last few years would have been wasted. The chemistry between Paul and Griffin is apparent, not to mention the fact that he is arguably the best point guard in the game.
It will be a tough hole to fill—to say the least—and it immediately erases all progress made by this organization.
Young Guys Show No Improvement
3 of 5DeAndre Jordan is athletic, but so far, that’s been his only real asset to the Clippers. He throws down dunks to get his points, thus the 63 percent from the field last season, and he gets blocks and boards due to his athletic ability.
While he has developed a little bit of defensive awareness and is able to muscle down-low, he is a very raw center.
Blake Griffin has worked on his game over the past few seasons, and that has showed on the stat sheet. However, his defense is still a major issue. For a guy with his gifts to average less than one block a game is shameful.
He is not able to keep up with his man, and that will also keep the Clippers from making any type of run.
Both Blake and Jordan have time; they just have to use it wisely.
The New Additions Fail
4 of 5The Clippers added Jamal Crawford, Grant Hill and Lamar Odom to the roster in the hopes that they would give them an added punch.
Crawford is coming off a terrible year where his shooting percentage dropped to it's lowest since his rookie season. Grant Hill is turning 40 in October, will age catch up?
Lamar Odom is coming off a terrible year where he hit a new low in every statistical category.
Can Crawford and Odom come back? The Clippers certainly bet on it, but if those guys don't show improvement, then the Clippers could be fighting to make the playoffs instead of fighting for a top-five seed.
The Clippers took a big risk this season, and it could cost them.
Vinny Del Negro Is the Same Coach
5 of 5Vinny Del Negro is arguably the worst coach in the NBA. No matter how talented at team is, it needs a good coach to put it all together.
Vinny is a terrible coach, and if he stays the same, the fans should be relieved if the Clippers make it past the second round. Most of the struggles the Clippers had can be traced directly back to Del Negro and his lineups.
He is a young coach, but this team is ready to make some noise. It can't wait on him.
