Olympic Gymnastics Highlights 2012: Most Impressive Showings from Qualifying

Mike MoraitisJun 7, 2018

Team USA is off to a great start in men's gymnastics after a strong showing that gave it the overall lead in the team event at the end of qualifying.

Team USA finished with an overall score of 275.342, which was good enough to put it in first ahead of Great Britain's team.

It took some great individual performances to put the men's team in the position it's in. Let's take a look at the U.S. gymnasts most responsible for Team USA's success thus far.

John Orozco: High Bar

In the most impressive performance of the day, Orozco took to the high bar looking to put his team in position for a medal on Monday.

The Bronx native displayed some incredible skills in this particular routine, getting insane air on his releases that would have made former NBA great Michael "Air" Jordan blush.

Orozco's high bar performance was one to remember, and he should be an integral part of his team's success in the London Games moving forward.

Danell Leyva: Floor Exercise

In the floor exercise, Leyva wowed the London crowd with a memorable showing that further helped put his squad in a perfect position for gold.

Leyva's most notable move of the entire routine happened when the American balanced on his hands and subsequently finished by pulling his legs up and over his head, finishing with his knees touching his nose.

That impressive move from Levya and his strong finish proved that, with the help of his skills on the floor, this gymnast will be helping the men's gymnastics team take home some hardware.

Jake Dalton: Floor Exercise

Dalton's floor exercise put the finishing touches on what was an all-around impressive day for the men's team.

Narrowly avoiding falling out of bounds, Dalton's awareness kept him on the mat, and his form looked nearly flawless throughout. There's no doubt his mix of strength and finesse is second-to-none in this event.

Dalton's routine ultimately helped the Team USA men's squad remain atop the leaderboard at the end of qualifying.
