Ray Allen Rumors: Why Miami Heat Is Perfect Landing Spot for Star SG

First it was Jason Terry. Next it was Deron Williams.

After that came the shocking news of a Steve Nash sign-and-trade. At any given moment, the next big name could drop off of the market and leave teams wondering what their next move will be.

The question is, will that name be of the all-time greatest three point shooter? If the Miami Heat have their way, the answer will be a resounding "yes."

At 36 years old, Ray Allen remains one of the most prized possessions in the NBA.

The future Hall of Famer made news before free agency had even begun when the defending champion Miami Heat made it known that their formal rival is their top target.

As Brian Windhorst of ESPN.com reports, the recruiting process is officially underway.

Both LeBron James of the Miami Heat and Chris Paul of the Los Angeles Clippers have begun the process of swaying Allen their way. Both teams are in need of a sharpshooter, however the Clippers are in need of a 2 in general.

The question is, who has the advantage?

While we can't definitively answer that question at this very moment, one thing is perfectly clear: If Ray Allen wants to win another title, South Beach is the place to be.

Just don't expect the Boston Celtics to eliminate themselves from the conversation.

In all likelihood, Los Angeles would be able to offer Allen the starting job.

Miami, meanwhile, would almost certainly have Allen playing the role of sixth man; a role he's played on only a limited basis with the Boston Celtics.

Nevertheless, Allen's playing time would remain at a high level and his chances of winning would be higher in Miami than anywhere else.

After all, why wouldn't the 36-year-old want to add a few more rings to his God-blessed hand?

As for Allen's fit in Miami, it's not hard to see why he's so highly-touted.

Sharpshooter Mike Miller has suffered from severe injuries in each of his two seasons in Miami, but played a key role in the Heat's title-clinching Game 5 victory as he poured in seven three-pointers.

While Allen can't be expected to tally such an amount on any given evening, his prowess and consistency from distance is exactly what the Heat needs. LeBron James can only take the team as far as their three-point shooting supports him.

With the opportunity to sit behind Dwyane Wade, as well as play alongside LeBron James and Chris Bosh, Allen would likely enter games with the least defensive pressure he's ever faced in his illustrious career.

This opens the door for a greater amount spot-up opportunities, as well much less of a wear-and-tear on his aging body.

With the factors of a title win and alleviated physical pressure, Allen is in place to find the best possible situation as he finishes out an outstanding career.

Whether we'd like to admit it or not, the best case scenario would be for Ray Allen to take his talents to South Beach.
