NBA Draft 2012: Could OSU'S Jared Sullinger Fall to Cavaliers at No. 24?
Even though Jared Sullinger participated in drills at the NBA draft combine, worked out privately for teams and missed a grand total of two games due to back issues at Ohio State last season, his stock has plummeted lately due to "medical issues."
While this may be devastating for Sullinger, it could be great for teams picking in the mid-late first round, who previously thought they had no shot at the two-time All-American.
One team that has a definite need for a low-post scoring presence is the Cleveland Cavaliers, who pick first at No. 4 and then again at No. 24.
So, with Sullinger's stock falling, what are the chances the former OSU star would fall all the way to No. 24? Here's where some of the experts project him to go:
| Expert/Mock Site | Pick No. | Team |
| Chad Ford, ESPN | 19 | Orlando Magic |
| Draft Express | 19 | Orlando Magic |
| Matt Moore, CBS Sports | 21 | Boston Celtics |
| My NBA Draft | 19 | Orlando Magic |
| Hoops World | 20 | Denver Nuggets |
| FSO's Sam Amico | 22 | Boston Celtics |
It appears as though Sullinger won't make it past the Boston Celtics who own the 21st and 22nd overall picks and have a need at power forward as both Kevin Garnett and Brandon Bass head into free agency.
So, while mock drafts are just mocks, it does appear unlikely that Sullinger will make it to pick No. 24. This doesn't mean the Cavaliers are necessarily out of the run, however.
Since the Cavs also own the No. 33 and 34 overall picks, if they get an opportunity to package the 24th pick with the 33rd and/or 34th to move up into the late teens to draft Sullinger, they absolutely should—provided team physicians approve.
A draft with Bradley Beal/Harrison Barnes/Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Jared Sullinger?
Hello 2013 playoffs.
