An article from Bob Cooney of Philly.com broke the news that the Sixers were looking for a long-term replacement for Thorn, who is searching for a smaller role with the club.
Ferry would appear to be a logical replacement for the Sixers. During his time as the general manager of the Cleveland Cavaliers Ferry oversaw a young group led by LeBron James that made an NBA Finals appearance in 2007 against the San Antonio Spurs.
After departing Cleveland in 2010, Ferry was named as the Spurs' Vice President of Basketball Operations. A veteran in managerial circles, Ferry would be a wise choice by Josh Harris and the rest of the Sixers' new ownership group.
With one of the league's youngest teams and some cap space, Ferry would be given a shot to operate in one the NBA's most intriguing front-offices. With a young corps of players comprised of Jrue Holiday, Evan Turner and Thaddeus Young, the Sixers have some flexibility this offseason.
With Elton Brand looking like a possible casualty of the amnesty clause, the 76ers could have $18 million in added cap space this offseason, and a hefty amount of that could bring in some necessary pieces. In addition, the Sixers have three picks in this month's NBA Draft, selecting at No. 15, No. 45 and No. 54.
