College Football Recruiting 2013: 10 Recruits Rising Up the Rankings
With the summer coming up and the spring giving us a chance to all go out and see some prospects live and in-person, you'll start to see the recruiting boards fluctuate.
For this read, I'm going to give you 10 prospects that are rising up the boards and creating a buzz for themselves. These players have evaluators go back and re-look at their junior film and really go see them at a camp or combine.
Let's see who they are.
10. Mike Mitchell, LB
1 of 10Mitchell, a 6'4", 225-pounder, wasn't even on the radar at the start of the recruiting cycle and now has risen all the way up to No. 45 in the Rivals 100.
He's shown that he's more than a two-down 'backer and can really factor in coverage versus the pass.
He's versatile, offering a LB corps his services as a middle guy or on the flanks, and he has seen more schools come and hop on his bandwagon.
9. Torrodney Prevot, OLB/DE
2 of 10Torrodney Prevot and his pass-rushing prowess is shooting up the board. He is very light in the pants at 6'4" and just 205 pounds, but he can get after the QB like a cheetah on a steak.
Prevot has an excellent burst off the ball, long arms to stay free, and can surge to finish on the passer.
He's from Texas and has the Longhorns, Miami, Florida State, Cal and LSU, among others, hot on his trail per Scout.com.
8. Brice Ramsey, QB
3 of 10Ramsey's stock may have been hurt by not throwing well at the Army combine last year, but all he has done so far this spring is light up every public showing he's been to.
The Georgia commit is a 6'3" QB near 200 pounds and has improved his footwork. His arm strength is fantastic, and he can get silly streaky with his accuracy.
7. Tim Williams, DE
4 of 10Williams was once ranked No. 124 in the Rivals 100. Now he's 23rd.
He comes from Baton Rouge, and you can bet your bottom dollar that LSU is looking hard at him. Williams is a 6'4", 230-pound DE that could be a situational pass-rusher early in his true freshman season.
6. Cooper Bateman, QB
5 of 10You commit to Alabama, and then your buzz is going to really ascend.
Cooper Bateman is learning that right now, as his 6'3", 205-pound frame and howitzer for an arm have caught the eye of many.
Tuscaloosa is very excited to have him, and he is Alabama's QB of the future.
5. Demarcus Walker, DL
6 of 10Walker can play either DE or DT and is already 6'4" and 280 pounds. He is extremely quick off the ball, and his strength is rapidly improving.
He's shown at various camps and combines that he's a handful in the trenches, dominating pass-rushing drills. Walker can fit in as a 40-front DT, a 30-front DE, or even a strong-side DE.
I have a hunch about the Florida Gators.
4. Deoundrei Davis, LB
7 of 10Deoundrei Davis sits at No. 46 in the Rivals 100 after previously missing out on the top 250.
He is a 6'2", 200-pound linebacker and an outstanding natural athlete that works well in space. Davis can simply locate the football with great vision, sift through traffic with awesome speed, and make a stick for stop.
He's headed to Texas.
3. Derrick Green, RB
8 of 10Derrick Green has really impressed in the offseason. He's a big back—at 5'11" and 220 pounds—with a thick frame, and he runs with good pop and power.
Yet, this offseason, Green has flashed good speed, quickness and nimble feet. He really has a chance to be a prime time rock toter in college.
Look for a scaled-down list this summer, in all likelihood.
2. Tahaan Goodman
9 of 10Goodman has risen up 121 spots since the Rivals 100, and that's not a shock. A 6'2", 190-pound DB from California, Goodman can do it all on the back end.
He plays with great speed, shows that he is physical even in 7-on-7 settings, and has great awareness in coverage.
USC, UCLA and LSU stand out according to Scout.com.
1. Scott Pagano, DT
10 of 10Pagano has the SEC buzzing right now, because the Hawaii native is rising up the charts—and I think he wants to play in the SEC.
A 6'3", 280-pounder, Pagano has great strength and quickness. He can one-gap or two-gap in the trenches, pierce creases, and even push the pocket as a pass-rusher.
Look out for the LSU Tigers.
