2012 NBA Mock Draft: Pick-by-Pick Predictions (2 Rounds)
The suspense is over. The New Orleans Hornets have the first pick in the 2012 draft.
The ESPN announcement transformed—as only ESPN can—something as mundane as announcing the order teams select into reality TV, complete with eerie, suspense-inducing music.
For the most part, teams will pick in the exact order we expected since the regular season has ended—but with one major change.
The Hornets were pegged to pick fourth but leap-frogged into the top spot. The No. 1 overall pick will go along with the No. 10 pick, giving New Orleans fans plenty to look forward to.
But now that it’s official, let’s take a look at who will be heading where, come draft night.
1. New Orleans Hornets: Anthony Davis
1 of 60Freshman C Kentucky
Height: 6’10”
Weight: 220 pounds
2011-12 stats: 14.2 PPG, 10.4 RPG, 4.7 BPG
The New Orleans Hornets no longer need to worry about re-signing Chris Kaman.
Instead, they can draft franchise-changing center Anthony Davis.
Davis can team with Eric Gordon to make a dynamic pick-and-roll combination.
Oh, and he’s pretty good on defense too.
2. Charlotte Bobcats: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist
2 of 60Freshman SF Kentucky
Height: 6’7”
Weight: 232 pounds
2011-12 stats: 11.9 PPG, 7.4 RPG, 1.9 APG
The Charlotte Bobcats were hoping for the top overall pick, but instead will have to settle for a consolation prize.
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is a pretty good No. 2 option.
Kidd-Gilchrist gives the Bobcats a second scoring option to go alongside Kemba Walker.
3. Washington Wizards: Thomas Robinson
3 of 60Height: 6’10”
Weight: 237 pounds
2011-12 stats: 17.7 PPG, 11.9 RPG, 1.1 SPG
If the Washington Wizards had received the No. 2 pick as originally anticipated, they would have had to choose between Thomas Robinson and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist.
Falling to No. 3 is a blessing in disguise for the Wizards.
Washington needs a big man to team with John Wall.
Robinson’s strength will improve Washington’s rebounding right away.
Expect Robinson to play a lot of minutes as a rookie on a depleted Wizards roster.
4. Cleveland Cavaliers: Andre Drummond
4 of 60Freshman PF/C UConn
Height: 6’10”
Weight: 270 pounds
2011-12 stats: 10.0 PPG, 7.6 RPG, 2.7 BPG
Cleveland got bumped out of the top three. As a result, the Cavaliers will find themselves taking the biggest gamble in the draft by selecting Andre Drummond.
Drummond has potential to be the biggest star in this draft.
With his outrageous size and athleticism, Drummond could turn into a Dwight Howard-like post presence.
On the other hand, Drummond’s dedication and desire have both been questioned. As likely as it is for him to become a star, he could just as easily become a bust.
5. Sacramento Kings: Harrison Barnes
5 of 60Sophomore SF North Carolina
Height: 6’8”
Weight: 215 pounds
2011-12 stats: 17.1 PPG, 5.2 RPG, 1.1 APG
Harrison Barnes will add a third piece to the Kings’ emerging puzzle of potential. Tyreke Evans and DeMarcus Cousins are the two pieces already in place.
Adding Barnes’ smooth all-around game makes him a good fit anywhere in the NBA. With the Kings, Barnes will be able to show off his polished game right away.
6. Portland Trail Blazers: Jared Sullinger
6 of 60Sophomore PF Ohio State
Height: 6’9”
Weight: 265 pounds
2011-12 stats: 17.6 PPG, 9.3 RPG, 1.1 BPG
Jared Sullinger’s size and skill set will thrust him into the starting lineup immediately in Portland.
Portland needs a big man, and Sullinger’s length compares favorably with an Elton Brand-type player.
He will work nicely with LaMarcus Aldridge in Portland’s front court.
7. Golden State Warriors: Terrence Jones
7 of 60Sophomore SF/PF Kentucky
Height: 6’9”
Weight: 252 pounds
2011-12 stats: 12.3 PPG, 7.2 RPG, 1.8 BPG
Trading Monta Ellis for Andrew Bogut is a terrific maneuver if Bogut can stay healthy in California.
That creates a dangerous foursome of Bogut, David Lee, Steph Curry and Klay Thompson.
The missing piece is at small forward.
Terrence Jones could step into that void and contribute immediately.
8. Toronto Raptors: Bradley Beal
8 of 60Freshman PG Florida
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 207 pounds
2011-12 stats: 14.8 PPG, 6.7 RPG, 2.2 APG
Bradley Beal will slip a little farther than he might think, as other teams draft to address specific needs.
In Toronto, Beal goes to a team that needs to upgrade its entire roster.
This works out great for Beal, as he will have the green light to be a mass-shooting scoring machine north of the border.
9. Detroit Pistons: Arnett Moultrie
9 of 60Junior PF/C Mississippi State
Height: 6’11”
Weight: 230 pounds
2011-12 stats: 16.4 PPG, 10.5 RPG, .549 FG percentage
The Detroit Pistons have three steady backcourt players in Ben Gordon, Brandon Knight and Rodney Stuckey. Detroit could improve its guard play, but that’s not the biggest issue.
Getting bigger is the immediate concern.
Arnett Moultrie can play the 3, 4 or even the 5. He has the skills of a small forward and the size of a small center.
Detroit could cause matchup problems by pairing Moultrie with Charlie Villanueva in the frontcourt.
10. New Orleans Hornets: Jeremy Lamb
10 of 60Sophomore SG UConn
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 180 pounds
2011-12 stats: 17.7 PPG, 4.9 RPG, 1.2 SPG
Jeremy Lamb’s seven-foot wingspan will add even more length to the Hornets’ rookie class.
With Lamb and Anthony Davis, New Orleans becomes a much better defensive team based on length alone.
But Lamb’s bigger strength is on the offensive end. He will join Eric Gordon in the backcourt to create a potent scoring combo.
Lamb’s shooting ability makes him an instant threat as a rookie.
11. Portland Trail Blazers: Kendall Marshall
11 of 60Sophomore PG North Carolina
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 195 pounds
2011-12 stats: 8.1 PPG, 9.8 APG, 1.2 SPG
Brooklyn staying out of the top three gives Portland two lottery picks. That allows the Trail Blazers to address their primary offseason concerns: Point guard and center.
By taking Jared Sullinger with the No. 6 pick, the Blazers are able to go after a point guard with the No. 11 pick.
Kendall Marshall is the most NBA-ready point guard in the draft.
Putting him into an already-potent Portland lineup will allow him to seamlessly transition from college to the pros.
12. Milwaukee Bucks: John Henson
12 of 60Junior PF North Carolina
Height: 6’11”
Weight: 220 pounds
2011-12 stats:13.7 PPG, 9.9 RPG, 2.9 BPG
After trading Andrew Bogut for Monta Ellis, Milwaukee needs to address its frontcourt.
John Henson gives the Bucks a big man who fits in with the exciting backcourt of Ellis and Brandon Jennings.
Henson’s 7’4” wingspan makes him a shot-blocking presence. It will also help him snag offensive rebounds from the gunners Jennings and Ellis.
13. Phoenix Suns: Perry Jones
13 of 60Sophomore SF/PF Baylor
Height: 6’11”
Weight: 235 pounds
2011-12 stats: 13.5 PPG, 7.6 RPG, 1.3 APG
Phoenix will re-sign either Steve Nash or Aaron Brooks to address the point guard position.
That frees up the Suns’ lottery pick to go after other needs.
Finding a scoring weapon who can also defend is a luxury all teams hope for the in draft. With Perry Jones at the No. 13 pick, Phoenix gets that.
Jones has a ton of potential with his length and athleticism.
14. Houston Rockets: Tyler Zeller
14 of 60Senior PF/C North Carolina
Height: 7’0”
Weight: 250 pounds
2011-12 stats: 16.3 PPG, 9.6 RPG, 1.5 BPG
Houston desperately needs a center.
Tyler Zeller is the center best suited to join this team.
He can get up and down the floor with the Rockets’ terrific guard tandem. He’s also a good rebounder with a nice touch down low.
Zeller will add a dimension to the Rockets’ offense that has been missing since Yao Ming’s career was cut short by injury.
15. Philadelphia 76ers: Damian Lillard
15 of 60Junior PG Weber State
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 195 pounds
2011-12 stats: 24.5 PPG, 4.0 APG, 1.5 SPG
The Philadelphia 76ers are blessed in that they are able to draft the best player regardless of position.
The 76ers are deep and talented up and down the lineup.
Adding Damian Lillard to the team gives the Sixers another scorer coming off the bench.
Lillard could become the point guard of the future for this team. Because Philadelphia is so deep, however, he will have time to develop into a quality NBA guard.
16. Houston Rockets: Terrence Ross
16 of 60Sophomore SG/SF Washington
Height: 6’6”
Weight: 195 pounds
2011-12 stats: 16.4 PPG, 6.4 RPG, 1.3 SPG
The Houston Rockets already have dangerous scoring options in the backcourt, but you can never have too many.
Adding Terrence Ross gives the Rockets’ second unit a solid option.
Ross can score, rebound and defend. That is the type of player you want leading the second unit.
He will make for a great backup to Kevin Martin as a rookie. Eventually Ross will make a perfect complement to him.
17. Dallas Mavericks: Meyers Leonard
17 of 60Sophomore C Illinois
Height: 7’1”
Weight: 245 pounds
2011-12 stats: 13.6 PPG, 8.2 RPG, 1.9 BPG
Meyers Leonard is one of the few pure centers to emerge from the NCAA in recent years.
He has potential to become a capable scorer and a shot-stopper in the middle. He won’t be a Tyson Chandler, but he will give Dallas the interior defense the Mavs have missed since Chandler went to the Big Apple.
Dallas will delight when it sees Leonard still available this late in the first round.
18. Minnesota Timberwolves: Moe Harkless
18 of 60Freshman SG/SF St. John’s
Height: 6’8”
Weight: 208 pounds
2011-12 stats: 15.3 PPG, 8.6 RPG, 1.4 BPG
Adding Moe Harkless to the roster makes Michael Beasley expendable if the Timberwolves can find a trading partner for him.
Harkless is an exciting player who can get to the rim, finish in traffic and knock down the mid-range jumper.
He will give Ricky Rubio another high-flying target for no-look alley-oops.
His length and active hands make him an asset on the defensive end as well.
19. Orlando Magic: Austin Rivers
19 of 60Freshman PG/SG Duke
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 200 pounds
2011-12 stats: 15.5 PPG, 2.1 APG, .365 3P percentage
Orlando gets another knockdown three-point shooter by adding Austin Rivers.
Perhaps the bigger bonus is that Rivers is willing to take the big shot with the game on the line.
What he doesn’t do, however, is fill the void of Dwight Howard if he does in fact leave.
The Magic would like to be able to add a big man here, but Rivers is too good to pass up with the 19th selection.
20. Denver Nuggets: Doron Lamb
20 of 60Sophomore SG Kentucky
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 210 pounds
2011-12 stats: 13.7 PPG, .466 3P percentage, .826 FT percentage
The Denver Nuggets land the best pure shooter in the draft with Doron Lamb.
He gives the team a floor-spreader. Defenses will not be able to leave Lamb alone in the corner for fear he will bury dagger after dagger.
Putting him on the second unit with a tremendous passer but terrible shooter like Andre Miller makes Lamb a perfect complementary piece.
21. Boston Celtics: Dion Waiters
21 of 60Sophomore PG/SG Syracuse
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 215 pounds
2011-12 stats: 12.6 PPG, 2.5 APG, 1.8 SPG
Dion Waiters will be a younger version of Keyon Dooling for the Boston Celtics.
He has the ability to play as Rajon Rondo’s backup or at the 2 alongside Rondo.
With Waiters’ transition game, putting him and Rondo on the floor together will make Boston an even more exciting team to watch.
22. Boston Celtics: Fab Melo
22 of 60Sophomore C Syracuse
Height: 7’0”
Weight: 255 pounds
2011-12 stats: 7.8 PPG, 5.8 RPG, 2.9 BPG
Syracuse is the rare team to have two players picked back-to-back by the same NBA team after the Celtics take Fab Melo and Dion Waiters.
The two should have a decent sense of chemistry after spending two years together with the Orangemen.
Melo also gives Boston a defensive presence at center should the Celtics not bring Kevin Garnett back.
At a legit seven feet, Melo can clog the lane and provide putback points on offense.
23. Atlanta Hawks: Tony Wroten
23 of 60Freshman PG/SG Washington
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 205 pounds
2011-12 stats: 16.0 PPG, 5.0 RPG, 3.7 APG
The Atlanta Hawks get one of the biggest potential sleeper picks in the draft.
At Washington, Tony Wroten was forced to carry a lot of the scoring load. That didn’t allow him to show off his passing.
He is, however, a solid combo guard who can either distribute or play off the ball.
Wroten will upgrade the shooting guard position for Atlanta.
24. Cleveland Cavaliers: Evan Fournier
24 of 6019-year-old SG France
Height: 6’6”
Weight: 190 pounds
2011-12 stats: 14.0 PPG, 2.2 APG, 1.5 SPG
Cleveland addressed its need to get bigger by taking Andre Drummond with its first pick.
Now the Cavaliers are able to add another scorer to take the burden off of Kyrie Irving.
Frenchman Evan Fournier is a gamble because you can never be sure what you’re getting with players from overseas.
The Cavs are willing to roll the dice here and could end up with a solid scorer at the shooting guard position.
25. Memphis Grizzlies: Andrew Nicholson
25 of 60Senior PF St. Bonaventure
Height: 6’9”
Weight: 240 pounds
2011-12 stats: 18.5 PPG, 8.4 RPG, 2.0 BPG
With one of the more underrated rosters in the NBA, Memphis can afford to draft role players.
Andrew Nicholson will offer a solid backup along the front line.
Nicholson has an intriguing package of skills and can score the ball inside and out.
With a pick this late, it’s worth it for the Grizz to gamble on a player who hasn’t had many opportunities to prove himself against top-level competition.
26. Indiana Pacers: Draymond Green
26 of 60Senior PF Michigan State
Height: 6’7”
Weight: 230 pounds
2011-12 stats: 16.2 PPG, 10.6 RPG, 3.8 APG
Draymond Green doesn’t have a ton of upside but fits in nicely with what the Indiana Pacers are trying to do.
He has a tremendous basketball IQ. He is willing to do whatever it takes to win—score, rebound, pass. That means he’ll also be willing to take his licks coming off the bench for a couple seasons behind already-established Indiana players.
Green has all the intangibles and that will make him a great fit for an up-and-coming Pacers’ squad.
27. Miami Heat: Royce White
27 of 60Sophomore SF Iowa State
Height: 6’8”
Weight: 270 pounds
2011-12 stats: 13.4 PPG, 9.3 RPG, 5.0 APG
The Miami Heat will look to bulk up by adding Royce White to the roster.
While he is technically a small forward, he could see minutes at power forward as well, especially considering Miami’s roster often plays without a real strict guideline for traditional position roles.
White is surprisingly agile for his large size and possesses a well-rounded game.
28. Oklahoma City Thunder: Marquis Teague
28 of 60Freshman PG Kentucky
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 189 pounds
2011-12 stats: 10.0 PPG, 4.8 APG, 2.5 RPG
Derek Fisher likely won’t be around too much longer. That means the Oklahoma City Thunder need to find a backup for Russell Westbrook.
Teague is a steal this late in the first round for the Thunder.
In his one year at Kentucky, he demonstrated great leadership ability in guiding the Wildcats to an NCAA title.
That winning attitude will make him a great fit in the Thunder locker room.
29. Chicago Bulls: Quincy Miller
29 of 60Freshman SF Baylor
Height: 6’9”
Weight: 210 pounds
2011-12 stats: 10.6 PPG, 4.9 RPG, 1.4 APG
Quincy Miller’s 7’3” wingspan and high skill level give the Chicago Bulls a great backup for Luol Deng, with a similar repertoire.
Miller’s minutes will be limited early as he adjusts and improves his game. With such a talented Bulls’ team, he will develop nicely practicing against top-notch competition.
30. Golden State Warriors: Festus Ezeli
30 of 60Senior C Vanderbilt
Height: 6’11”
Weight: 255 pounds
2011-12 stats: 10.1 PPG, 5.9 RPG, 2.0 BPG
A 7’4” wingspan makes Festus Ezeli an intriguing prospect.
His rebounding numbers as a senior left something to be desired. But anyone as long as Ezeli can be seen as a project.
Golden State’s front line is already solid if Andrew Bogut is able to finally stay healthy.
Bringing in the Vanderbilt center allows the Warriors to shore up their interior defense.
31. Charlotte Bobcats: Drew Gordon
31 of 60Senior PF New Mexico
Height: 6’9”
Weight: 245 pounds
2011-12 stats: 13.7 PPG, 11.1 RPG, 1.0 BPG
Drew Gordon has a great array of offensive moves in the low post.
He doesn’t provide the post presence Charlotte hoped it would get with Anthony Davis, but he brings a ton of energy every night.
32. Washington Wizards: John Jenkins
32 of 60Junior SG Vanderbilt
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 205 pounds
2011-12 stats: 19.9 PPG, .439 3P percentage, .474 FG percentage
John Jenkins can knock down shots from all over the court.
He will allow the Washington Wizards to space the floor by making defenders honor his jumper.
33. Cleveland Cavaliers: Jeffery Taylor
33 of 60Senior SF Vanderbilt
Height: 6’7”
Weight: 225 pounds
2011-12 stats: 16.1 PPG, 5.6 RPG, 1.3 SPG
Jeffery Taylor gives the Cleveland Cavaliers a highlight-reel waiting to happen.
He has a prototypical small forward body and can jump out of the gym. Expect to see him on the opposite end of several Kyrie Irving lobs.
34. Cleveland Cavaliers: Kevin Jones
34 of 60Senior PF West Virginia
Height: 6’8”
Weight: 260 pounds
2011-12 stats: 19.9 PPG, 10.9 RPG, 1.0 BPG
The fourth pick in the draft gives Cleveland someone at each position to go along with current Rookie of the Year Kyrie Irving.
Kevin Jones is a bull of a player with quick feet who can bang down low.
He is the final piece of what shapes up to be a great draft for Cleveland as the Cavs put together a strong young nucleus.
35. Sacramento Kings: Khris Middleton
35 of 60Junior SG Texas A&M
Height: 6’7”
Weight: 210 pounds
2011-12 stats: 13.2 PPG, 5.0 RPG, 2.3 APG
Sacramento would like to see Khris Middleton develop his perimeter shot a bit more so he can help spread the floor for Tyreke Evans, DeMarcus Cousins and Harrison Barnes.
With some work in the offseason, that shouldn’t be a problem. Middleton has great height for a two guard and is an effective scorer.
36. Golden State Warriors: Darius Miller
36 of 60Senior SF Kentucky
Height: 6’8”
Weight: 225 pounds
2011-12 stats: 9.9 PPG, 2.8 RPG, 2.1 APG
The adjustment from college to the NBA should go smoothly for Darius Miller—he’ll be playing the same role.
Miller will go from backing up Terrence Jones at Kentucky to being Jones’ backup for the Warriors.
He has a good body and the mental makeup to succeed in that position.
37. Denver Nuggets: Kris Joseph
37 of 60Senior SF Syracuse
Height: 6’7”
Weight: 215 pounds
2011-12 stats: 13.4 PPG, 4.7 RPG, 1.4 SPG
Kris Joseph is a terrific athlete who can provide some explosive dunks. On the other end of the floor he can redirect shots and pull down rebounds.
He will add a layer of excitement to the Nuggets.
38. Toronto Raptors: William Buford
38 of 60Senior SG Ohio State
Height: 6’6”
Weight: 220 pounds
2011-12 stats: 14.5 PPG, 5.0 RPG, 2.7 APG
William Buford is a solid athlete who still has plenty of room for improvement.
He has a good shot and should pay off immediately on the offensive end of the floor for the Raptors.
39. Detroit Pistons: Kevin Murphy
39 of 60Senior SG Tennessee Tech
Height: 6’6”
Weight: 185 pounds
2011-12 stats: 20.6 PPG, 5.2 RPG, .416 3P percentage
No question about it, Kevin Murphy can score. Can he score against NBA competition, is the question.
He is a player who can get himself open, and when he does he can knock down shots from the perimeter.
40. Portland Trail Blazers: Will Barton
40 of 60Sophomore SG/SF Memphis
Height: 6’6”
Weight: 175 pounds
2011-12 stats: 18.0 PPG, 8.0 RPG, .509 FG percentage
Portland will find another Memphis alum to join Wesley Matthews on what is developing into a monstrous second unit.
Will Barton is able to score in creative ways and has a lethal mid-range jumper.
41. Portland Trail Blazers: Furkan Aldemir
41 of 6020-year-old PF Turkey
Height: 6’10”
Weight: 230 pounds
2011-12 stats: 8.5 PPG, 6.9 RPG, .589 FG percentage
The Portland Trail Blazers will try to add depth in the front court by rolling the dice on the Turkish big man.
Furkan Aldemir is a solid rebounder and adds a desperately-needed big man to Portland’s roster.
42. Milwaukee Bucks: Tyshawn Taylor
42 of 60Senior PG Kansas
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 180 pounds
2011-12 stats: 16.6 PPG, 4.7 APG, 2.3 RPG
Tyshawn Taylor knows how to play big-time basketball.
He will be relegated to a reserve role behind Monta Ellis and Brandon Jennings, but will flourish on the Bucks’ second unit if he can find someone to get the ball to.
43. Atlanta Hawks: Herb Pope
43 of 60Senior PF Seton Hall
Height: 6’8”
Weight: 236 pounds
2011-12 stats: 15.1 PPG, 10.1 RPG, 1.7 BPG
The Atlanta Hawks will add the agile big man to their bench in hopes he can replicate his collegiate production in the pros.
Herb Pope is active on both ends of the floor and is a relentless rebounder.
44. Detroit Pistons: Jae Crowder
44 of 60Senior PF Marquette
Height: 6’6”
Weight: 235 pounds
2011-12 stats: 17.5 PPG, 8.4 RPG, 2.5 SPG
Jae Crowder has an interesting blend of skills and can do seemingly everything asked of him on the court.
The reason he slipped so far is his size. At 6’6” and 235 pounds, he is a tweener and that scares teams away.
45. Philadelphia 76ers: JaMychal Green
45 of 60Senior PF Alabama
Height: 6’7”
Weight: 210 pounds
2011-12 stats: 13.9 PPG, 7.4 RPG, 1.5 BPG
JaMychal Green will need to put on some weight to be an effective power forward.
He will have time to bulk up in Philadelphia if he sticks to the bench early. Once he gets bigger, he will give the 76ers a high-energy player down low.
46. Washington Wizards: Kyle O’Quinn
46 of 60Senior PF/C Norfolk State
Height: 6’10”
Weight: 240 pounds
2011-12 stats: 15.9 PPG, 10.3 RPG, 2.7 BPG
The Washington Wizards will try to improve their front line by adding Kyle O’Quinn out of Norfolk State.
He has shown ability to block shots and rebound the ball, which are areas the Wizards need to improve.
47. Utah Jazz: Orlando Johnson
47 of 60Senior SG UC Santa Barbara
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 205 pounds
2011-12 stats: 19.7 PPG, 5.7 RPG, 2.9 APG
The Utah Jazz will add a scorer with Orlando Johnson. He lit up in all three seasons he spent with the Gauchos.
Johnson is a threat to score from beyond the arc.
48. New York Knicks: Mike Scott
48 of 60Senior PF Virginia
Height: 6’8”
Weight: 237 pounds
2011-12 stats: 18.0 PPG, 8.3 RPG, .563 FG percentage
The New York Knicks could find a long-term backup to Amar’e Stoudemire in Mike Scott.
Scott does a great job crashing the boards and makes a high percentage of his shots.
49. Orlando Magic: Tu Holloway
49 of 60Senior PG Xavier
Height: 6’0”
Weight: 180 pounds
2011-12 stats: 17.5 PPG, 4.8 APG, 1.5 SPG
Tu Holloway is unfortunately more known these days for his role in the crosstown brawl with Cincinnati.
He is a good point guard who plays the same tough-nosed style as Magic incumbent Jameer Nelson.
50. Denver Nuggets: Alex Young
50 of 60Senior SG/SF IUPUI
Height: 6’6”
Weight: 212 pounds
2011-12 stats: 20.4 PPG, 5.9 RPG, 2.2 APG
Denver lands one of the biggest potential sleepers in the draft.
Alex Young can score in a hurry. He can also shoot a team out of a game in a hurry.
If George Karl can rein in Young’s shot attempts, the Nuggets find a steal here.
51. Boston Celtics: Eric Griffin
51 of 60Senior PF Campbell
Height: 6’8”
Weight: 190 pounds
2011-12 stats: 15.7 PPG, 8.6 RPG, 2.3 BPG
Eric Griffin has crazy athleticism and a wingspan of around 7’1”. That will help him make up for his small frame as he tries to crack Boston’s rotation.
52. Golden State Warriors: Jared Cunningham
52 of 60Junior SG Oregon State
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 195 pounds
2011-12 stats: 17.9 PPG, 3.8 RPG, 2.5 SPG
The Golden State Warriors will take a chance on Jared Cunningham, who grew up nearby in Oakland.
He has great leaping ability and a lot of potential. His small, athletic style fits nicely with what the Warriors have done the past couple of seasons.
Cunningham has drawn comparisons to Gary Payton.
53. L.A. Clippers: Marcus Denmon
53 of 60Senior SG Missouri
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 185 pounds
2011-12 stats: 17.7 PPG, 5.0 RPG, 1.5 SPG
The Los Angeles Clippers will try to find an effective backcourt mate for Chris Paul.
They may have their man in Marcus Denmon. Although he is undersized, he has a good three-point shot when open.
54. Philadelphia 76ers: Kim English
54 of 60Senior SG Missouri
Height: 6’6”
Weight: 200 pounds
2011-12 stats: 14.5 PPG, 4.2 RPG, .459 3P percentage
Philadelphia finds a wise scorer late in the second round with Kim English.
English can knock down threes and is a smart enough player to know when to pass up shots to open teammates.
55. Dallas Mavericks: J’Covan Brown
55 of 60Junior PG/SG Texas
Height: 6’1”
Weight: 197 pounds
2011-12 stats: 20.1 PPG, 3.8 APG, 1.2 SPG
The Dallas Mavericks hope to find another J.J. Barea by taking Texas product J’Covan Brown.
Brown lit up the scoreboard for a below-average Texas team last year.
56. Toronto Raptors: Dusan Cantekin
56 of 6021-year-old Center Serbia
Height: 7’4”
Weight: 245 pounds
2011-12 stats: n/a
