Anthony Davis: How Big Man Would Impact Top Lottery Teams

Chris TrapassoJun 4, 2018

The 2012 NBA draft lottery is tonight, and one team will win to draft Anthony Davis, arguably the most unique presumptive No. 1 pick since LeBron James entered the NBA in 2003.

At 6'10'' and 220 pounds, the lanky Davis has guard quickness, a power forward's shooting touch and a center's shot-blocking ability.

Let's take a look at how this unique collegiate star would impact the top lottery teams.

Charlotte Bobcats (25 percent)

We are all aware how atrocious the Bobcats were on offense, defense and in the win-loss column in 2011, so a franchise player with incredible size, speed and athleticism would be integral in the team's rebuilding process.

Davis, at 6'10'' with an astounding 7'6'' wingspan, can change the complexion of the game at both ends of the court.

Charlotte finished the year allowing 100.9 points per game, which was 27th in the NBA.

The Kentucky star averaged 4.8 blocks per contest would certainly help in that category.

If the Bobcats land the No.1 pick and pick Davis, they'll add much-needed size to the current frontcourt of Bismack Biyombo, D.J. White, Byron Mullens and Tyrus Thomas.

Biyombo is oozing with potential and averaged nearly two blocks per game in 2011, but the 19-year-old is too small at 6'9'' to defend and score against centers in the NBA.

With Davis Charlotte would have two youthful bigs that have immense upside that also have plenty of room for improvement.

Washington Wizards (19.9 percent)

The Wizards have franchise cornerstone John Wall, who's still coming into his own as a dynamic NBA point guard.

He needs a complementary star, and would be significantly benefited by a steady inside force. Look at how much better Davis made Marcus Teague this past year with the Wildcats.

Nene is a fine and typically underrated center, but finding a young center to help keep his minutes down will make him the most efficient.

Davis and Nene would be a formidable duo down low, and the former Denver Nuggets center can teach Davis the nuances of playing with a more physical style in the post.

The Wizards were a little better defensively than the Bobcats, but still allowed 98.4 points per game this season.

Cleveland Cavaliers (13.8 percent)

Like the Wizards, the Cavaliers have their franchise point guard with legitimate star power. Kyrie Irving is fresh off the 2012 Rookie of the Year award and Cleveland must create an atmosphere conducive to success around him.

Davis would be the ideal addition as a great pick-and-roll option for Irving.

No disrespect to the relatively raw Tristan Thompson, but the Cavs are extremely thin along their front line and desperately need a formidable shot-blocker and above-the-rim presence in the post.

With Davis Cleveland wouldn't instantly be contenders, but they'd have two extraordinary pieces to build on for the future.
