College Football Recruiting 2013: Ranking the Top 10 Prospects in the South
Today we arrive in the South, where SEC country is rich with talent. We've already looked at Florida, Texas, California, the Midwest and the Atlantic.
The South as a region is just littered with talent, and boy, was settling on just 10 for this list tough as nails.
The following 10 are the top elite prospects and are of the best-of-the-best caliber in the South for 2013 recruiting.
10. Tramel Terry, WR/CB
1 of 10Tramel Terry is from South Carolina, and the name of his game is speed. Why? Because he has a ton of it.
He flies around the field as a WR and CB on a 5'11" frame in the 180-pound range. Terry can skate with the best of them and could opt to stick on offense in college, which will be in Georgia.
9. Carl Lawson, DE
2 of 10Carl Lawson is a 6'2", 250-pound DE prospect from Georgia. He's an edge defender that can get after the passer, but at his size, he can also stack up against the run.
Lawson has solid snap quickness and is pretty good in chasing from the backside. There's a chance he can also stand up in a 30-front or play some OLB.
He's headed to Auburn.
8. Vonn Bell, DB
3 of 10Vonn Bell is a prospect that I really like, as he has a good amount of versatility for a secondary. The Tennessee native can play both safety spots and some big corner for a defense in a pinch.
He stands 6'1" and weighs 190-pounds, has great play speed, vision on the ball and is quick to crash down to attack the run. When Bell locates the ball-carrier, he turns into a missile that won't stop until his target is on the ground.
Per ESPNU, look for Bell to trim his list towards the end of this month or so.
7. Altee Tenpenny, RB
4 of 10Altee Tenpenny is from Arkansas and is a great RB prospect. He's listed at about 6'0" and a bit over 200-pounds.
He shows great speed, and if there's a crease, Tenpenny will decide to take it and then some. He can break away from defenders and elude in the open field, and he flashes better run strength than given credit for.
Tennpenny is committed to Alabama.
6. O.J. Howard, TE
5 of 10Howard is listed as a TE prospect, but don't be overly shocked to see him play DE or OLB in college either.
He goes 6'5" and 225-pounds on the hoof, showing a long and lean frame. He's incredibly athletic, displaying any athletic trait you can possibly think of. If he's left at TE, he should develop into a great pass-catching seam player with better speed than linebackers.
Howard is going to Alabama.
5. Dee Liner, DT
6 of 10Dee Liner hails from Alabama and plays inside on the defensive line. He stands 6'4", 270-pounds and is a good athlete for a DT.
He flashes solid strength at the point of attack, but he really is best when he's clean from blocks, allowed to quickly locate the ball and chase it down in a short area. He'll pressure the passer pretty well on passing downs.
He's committed to Auburn.
4. Montravius Adams, DT
7 of 10Montravius Adams is a Peach State native who plays DT. He's explosive at the snap, showing overwhelming snap quickness in comparison to blockers.
Adams has quick hands and solid strength. The only thing missing from his game is better technique. He could be a great three-technique player in college, but Adams should excel in any scheme where he's allowed to one-gap.
Look for LSU, USC, Oregon, Michigan State and TCU to possibly get visits, per Scout.com.
3. Antonio Conner, S
8 of 10Antonio Conner is the top SS prospect on my board, as the 6'1", 200-pound Mississippi native hails form powerhouse South Panola.
He plays with great speed, is quick to attack the line against the run and is excellent as an open-field tackler. Conner also excels as a RB for South Panola, but defense is most likely where his future lies.
He's likely to end up at Ole Miss at some point.
2. Reuben Foster, LB
9 of 10Reuben Foster is from Georgia but has transferred to a school in Alabama. He's not only the second best prospect in the South, he's the second best prospect in the nation.
At 6'2" and 245-pounds, Foster is probably the most complete LB prospect to come out of high school in years. He's heady, aware, instinctive, quick to read run and pass, and quick to fill alleys. He shows strength at the point of attack, and sheds and makes stops with thumps.
He's committed to Alabama.
1. Robert Nkemdiche, DE
10 of 10Well, as Foster is second best in both the South and nation, Nkemdiche is tops in the South and the nation.
At 6'5", 270-pounds, Nkemdiche is a dominant player and superb prospect. He possesses amazing play strength and power, is both quick and fast and has easy athleticism for such a large man.
He's a warrior and could play DE, DT or even 3-4 OLB. Scout.com lists Alabama, LSU, Ole Miss, Clemson, Florida and Georgia as his top suitors.
