Brooklyn Nets NBA Combine 2012 Results: Measurements, Highlights and More

Richard LangfordMay 19, 2012

The Nets are getting their Brooklyn era started off by hosting a 2012 NBA draft combine. You won't find the Anthony Davises of the world here, but there certainly is some talent.

This event is geared for players juggling for position in the second round or who are just trying to get drafted.

Update: Tuesday, May 22 at 7:05 p.m. ET

You can view all of the official measurements from the combine at Draft Express. As you can imagine, they are extensive and thorough.

Lithuanian Mindaugas Kupsas will jump out at you right away. He measured 7'1" (without shoes). That right there is worth a look from NBA teams. However, they reported he struggled getting into the paint, and he obviously is going to need to add some muscle.

He weighted 261 pounds and put up just five reps on the bench.

As far as physical attributes go, Stanford's Josh Owens stole the show. He measured almost 6'8" and led the combine in standing vert, max vert and the bench. Also, his wingspan is just over 7'.

All of those attributes will help him succeed as a power forward in the NBA despite being slightly short for the position.

Update: Tuesday, May 22 at 6:40 p.m. ET

Ed Isaacson of NBA Draft Blog posted his thoughts and observations at Slam Online.

He singled out Kim English, Cameron Moore, Darius Johnson-Odom, Jae Crowder, Kevin Murphy and Alex Young as being particularly impressive.

English is getting nothing but praise from this combine. Isaacson pointed out that he showed he could defend guards after playing a season out of position at forward, and, by all accounts, English was drilling his shots.

He feels that Moore can be a nice role player in the NBA, and pointed out he flashed a nice mid-range game and the ability to run the floor.

The most interesting assessment he passed along was for Kevin Murphy out of Tennessee Tech. Here is what he had to say:

"

Murphy has most of the skills of a quality NBA wing, and he showed them in New Jersey. Knocking down jumpers off the catch and off the dribble, using his length well to guard on the perimeter, and doing a great job spotting cutters and hitting them with great passes for easy scores, Murphy had many NBA teams trying to think of ways they could use him right away next season.

"

He then added that Young, from IUPUI, had a very similar skill set to Murphy.

All of these players are in an excellent position to be on an NBA roster for years to come.

This is a two-day event, starting on Saturday and concluding on Sunday. This page will be updated as more results and highlights become available.

Looking over the Twitter feed of Jonathan Givony of Draft Express, it looks like a few players are standing out early. Among those singled out in a positive way by Givony were Kim English, Josh Owens and Darius Johnson-Odom.

Givony seemed especially impressed with English:

"

Only one player you can say definitely looks like a NBA player in this 1st session: Kim English. Came out with his game face on #NetsCombine

Stay tuned for more updates and highlights, and take a look at all the players invited to attend. Please note that the measurements are not their official measurements from the combine.
