College Football Recruiting 2013: 5 Commitments That Could Force Transfers
Seeing any player transfer for any reason is always tough to see, because you see the player sign with the school, be excited and only want the best for him.
One factor that can lead to a player transferring is of course playing time. Sometimes a player comes into a program and sees the team sign another player at his position that it likes a little better than him, sees the writing on the wall and leaves.
For this read, here are five committed players that could force that scenario to occur.
5. Texas' OL Class
1 of 5If you count A'Shawn Robinson, Texas has four commits in this 2013 class that possibly could play on the OL.
The Longhorns signed four OL's in 2012 and five OL's in 2011. So that is possibly 13 players fighting for five spots to start.
It's a chance that one or two of the recent Longhorn OL recruits bolts out of Austin to go get on the field elsewhere.
4. Reuben Foster, ILB
2 of 5Foster is possibly the best LB prospect ever in modern recruiting and is headed to Alabama. I don't think Foster, 6'2" and 245 pounds needs or should be redshirted.
However, there is a solid LB depth chart in Tuscaloosa with recent LB recruits like Reggie Ragland, Brent Calloway, Trey DePriest, Dillon Lee, Xzavier Dickson and Ryan Anderson as the youngins.
Dickson is an OLB type, so he's probably excluded from danger. Yet if Foster earns a starting job as a true freshman, one of the others mentioned on this list could leave.
3. Brice Ramsey, QB
3 of 5Aaron Murray is gone from Athens after this season, and Mark Richt will be forced to find another QB for the Dawgs.
I expect a competition to ensue, and with Christian LeMay being the most highly touted coming out of high school, I would think he would be the favorite.
Yet, Brice Ramsey has a cannon for an arm and good size at 6'3", 197 pounds. Richt isn't afraid to play true freshman QB's (Matthew Stafford), and if Ramsey beats out LeMay, the latter could choose to leave.
2. Tyrone Swoopes, QB
4 of 5Swoopes has an exciting skill set with a high ceiling. He's a 6'5", 220-pound dual-threat type that can kill a defense with his legs and arm.
Headed to Texas, Swoopes will arrive to a roster that will have Case McCoy, David Ash, Connor Brewer and John Wilder on the roster. Wilder is not a threat and McCoy will be past the point of no return in transferring, so to speak.
But if Mack Brown and Bryan Harsin see another year of erratic QB play and see enough of Swoopes in training camp to start him, Brewer and/or Ash could be gone from Austin.
1. Max Browne, QB
5 of 5USC is known to be very open about playing true freshmen, and with Matt Barkley starting at QB in 2009, a new gate was opened in Los Angeles.
Max Browne is the Matt Barkley of the 2013 class, and like Barkley, is on track to enroll at USC early to compete for a starting job in spring practices as a true freshman.
Lane Kiffin has yet to settle on a back up QB to Barkley between Cody Kessler, Max Wittek and oft-injured Jesse Scroggins.
If Browne wins the job as a true freshman, don't be shocked to see two of the three back ups to Barkley leave USC.
