Floyd Mayweather: How Jail Time Will Effect Money May in the Ring
What does sitting in a jail cell do to a person?
For 2Pac it allowed him to reflect, and the outcome was one of the greatest double-disc albums of all-time in All Eyez on Me.
For Wesley Snipes, it made him fade from the spotlight faster than a right hook from Mike Tyson.
Speaking of Iron Mike, his jail term seemed to make him angrier and more confused about the world.
Jail can have an enormous effect on the person who enters a tiny cell.
With Floyd Mayweather set to enter jail for 87 days on June 1 for a 2010 battery domestic violence charge, the big question is how Money May will handle life behind bars.
With Money May raking in over $40 million for his win against Miguel Cotto, he has never been more popular in the world of sports. He knows this, loves this, and has made a ton of appearances across all media platforms to ensure he stays atop his perch.
So how will he handle being tossed aside for the entire summer?
He’ll be in a cell while his arch-rival Manny Pacquiao takes on Tim Bradley. Pacman will be the center of attention in the boxing world, the guy with a top-20 billboard hit and national TV commercials.
Meanwhile, Mayweather will be mingling with felons that are locked up for horrific crimes.
How will he spend his time?
He will obviously working out all the time, but is that a good idea? Without the ability to spar and work on his quickness, he’ll be hitting the weights hard.
Will it be too hard? Money May clocked in at about 150 before he fought Cotto, and if he isn’t careful, could add another five to ten pounds of bulk to his frame. While we have no idea who his next opponent will be, if he fights Pacquiao, speed will be more important than strength.
Then again, at 43-0, Mayweather is one smart and well-calculated cookie; he isn’t going to beef up just because he has nothing better to do.
The real question for Mayweather entering his jail sentence is his mental well-being. He was talking about retirement after beating Cotto, but we all know he’s not finished just yet. He’ll fight again; the only question is" who will his opponent be?
Will Mayweather lose his edge in prison? Will he become angrier than ever? Judging by the way he lives his life alongside Ms. Jackson and 50 Cent, he seems relaxed and at peace with life. Will that change behind bars?
There are many question marks surrounding how Money May will emerge from jail, but there is no question he’ll be a different person. Will it be for the better, or for the worse?
