NBA Draft 2012: Teams That Face Tough Decisions Come Draft Day

Ryan RudnanskyMay 8, 2012

Every team faces potentially franchise-changing decisions in the NBA draft, but some teams are in unique positions to go a variety of different ways.

Some teams will have to choose between addressing a need or taking the best available player. Some will have to choose which positions to address. Others will have to pick between a raw prospect with great upside or more of a sure thing.

Here's a look at teams I see facing nerve-racking decisions at their respective draft positions in the 2012 NBA draft, based on my latest mock draft.

3. Cleveland Cavaliers

The Cavaliers will likely have a shot at Florida shooting guard Bradley Beal or Connecticut center Andre Drummond here. Both are positions of need.

It's hard to see Beal not making an impact at the next level, but Drummond is a question mark. His athleticism and explosiveness reminds people of Dwight Howard, but does he have the desire?

9. Detroit Pistons

The Pistons would love to add someone at power forward to pair up with Greg Monroe.

The question is: Do you go with the explosive yet raw and inconsistent Perry Jones III of Baylor or do you go with Jared Sullinger of Ohio State, who should be a solid NBA player but raises concerns about his lack of explosiveness?

17. Dallas Mavericks

The Mavericks basically need to add youth across the board, but which direction do they go? Do they add the highly-talented but raw Tony Wroten Jr. of Washington or do they grab a shooting guard like Syracuse's Dion Waiters?

I have them drafting Waiters, who has the potential to be an impact player right away in the NBA.

27. Miami Heat

The Heat would love a center right here, but they likely won't find one that is a sure-fire first-rounder at this spot. So, do they reach for Vanderbilt's Festus Ezeli, or add depth?

I have a feeling Ezeli is going to develop into a nice player in the NBA, and I would grab him.

29. Chicago Bulls

The Bulls need a young shooting guard of the future, but they likely won't see top shooting guards fall to this spot. Do they add depth or gamble on a player like Memphis' Will Barton or Vanderbilt's John Jenkins?

I, for one, don't think Barton is a gamble at all in the first round, and I would grab him in a heartbeat.
