Mosley vs Alvarez: Impressive Win Proves Canelo Is Ready for Mayweather
Saul Canelo Alvarez may have had trouble knocking down Sugar Shane Mosley, but that doesn't mean the 21-year-old wasn't insanely impressive.
So impressive, in fact, that he is now ready to take on the undefeated Floyd Mayweather.
"This is a huge fight for me, all of the experience, the cut – all of it was new," said Alvarez. "I will fight whoever next."
Now, before you call this an overreaction ("Canelo beat a 40-year-old geezer, after all"), you need to know that Sugar Shane didn't look all that bad.
He lost every round, and the only way he was able to cut Canelo was with an inadvertent headbutt, but he landed a good amount of punches. He connected on an array of jabs and hooks and never backed down, even when Canelo came after him hard.
It may not look like it on the scorecard, but Sugar Shane was a worthy adversary. Despite ending the fight with a face puffier than Ashley Judd's, he put together a good fight. Take a look at the final round:
And that's what makes what Cinnamon did so amazing. And what he did, of course, is beat down Mosley.
According to Yahoo!, Alvarez connected with an amazing 348 punches, the most ever landed on Sugar Shane in his 35 fights tracked by Compubox.
Canelo was too young, too strong, too fast, too motivated, too hungry and too everything for Shane, who put up a solid fight. He wore down Mosley with impressive combinations and impressive power. It's clear, after this fight, that the undefeated 21-year-old is for real.
Mosley, who has faced Mayweather, sums it up best:
"“His defense is really good,” Mosley said of Alvarez. “He is really fast and he can go a long way. I didn't expect him to be that fast or that good. He is up there at the top. Mayweather is fast, Cotto, all the guys I have fought. He is up there with them.”
"
That's certainly high praise, but Canelo earned it.
Now, it's obvious that a 40-year-old Mosley is a far cry from Mayweather, who proved yesterday he has the best defense of any boxer ever.
But Mayweather isn't going to fight Pacquiao. Once he gets out of jail, he's going to need a fight. Timothy Bradley is a possibility, depending on how his fight with Pac-Man goes, but if Money wants to stay at his current weight, there is one ideal option.
Saul Canelo Alvarez.
Wouldn't it be, at the very least, fun to see the young, fearless, attacking style of Alvarez against the smart, precise style of Mayweather?
