Jon Jones: Return for Next Title Defense Unlikely Until August or September
While rumors were running rampant regarding Jon Jones' next title defense against Dan Henderson, it was speculated that they would headline UFC 149 in Calgary, Canada in July.
However, Jones' manager Malki Kawa, who made an appearance on "The MMA Hour," dismissed any possibility of the 24-year-old competing in the near future.
"He will not be fighting in July. It's just probably a little too soon," Kawa told MMAFighting.com. "There's been no timetable yet, but July probably isn't going to happen."
Jones is coming off a successful title defense over Rashad Evans, who he defeated via unanimous decision at UFC 145.
Although Jones remained victorious and walked away unscathed from his title bout, the demanding schedule has forced Jones to step back for a bit before he enters into the Octagon once again.
Kawa hinted at the possibility of Jones returning by September, where the UFC has already scheduled an upcoming event in Toronto at the Air Canada Centre.
Kawa added that Jones intends to compete at least three times this year, but assures he is taking a break.
Jones won the UFC light-heavyweight title last year against Mauricio "Shogun" Rua at UFC 128 and has since defended it three times against top divisional contenders Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and Lyoto Machida, and most recently, Evans.
"Jon's going to take a little time to himself, and then he'll get back into it," he said.
