New York Mets: Ronny Cedeno Heading to DL? Has Jordany Valdespin's Time Arrived?
With Ronny Cedeno expected to be placed on the disabled list for the New York Mets, it might be the start of the Jordany Valdespin era, according to Mets beat reporter Adam Rubin.
Valdespin is not Jose Reyes, but the excitement he creates may be the closest thing to him.
He is seen as a future utilityman for the Mets. His athleticism alone will allow him to play several different positions. He saw time mostly as a shortstop and second baseman in the Mets minor league system, and he also has seen a good deal of time in center field and some thought he may be an option to take over for Andres Torres when Torres re-injured his calf on opening day.

Yankees Call Up 6'7" Prospect 📈
Valdespin put up quality numbers with Double-A affiliate Binghamton and Triple-A affiliate Buffalo last season. Between the two levels, Valdespin hit .294 with 17 home runs and 38 stolen bases. His walk rate is a little concerning, as he walked just 25 times in 511 at bats. He also was caught stealing 18 times and struck out 93 times, so there is room for improvement.
He has improved his walk rate this season and seems to be cutting on his strikeouts as well. This season, he is hitting .276 with a 5-to-7 BB/K ratio.
Valdespin, along with pitcher Jeremy Hefner, traveled to New York, and the two are available for emergency if either needs to be called up for the second game of a doubleheader in which the Mets play the San Francisco Giants.
