Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
2012 NFL Mock Draft (Final Pre-Draft Update)
1. Indianapolis Colts: Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford
2. Washington Redskins (trade with St. Louis Rams): Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor
3. Minnesota Vikings: Matt Kalil, OT, Southern California
Kalil isn't at a Jake Long or Joe Thomas type in terms of his readiness to become an All-Pro offensive tackle, but he's clearly the best edge offensive lineman in this year's class.
He's polished and has the potential to become a franchise blind-side protector.
The Vikings are committed to 2011 first-round pick Christian Ponder and improving on the 49 sacks they allowed last season is absolutely paramount.
Kalil is a major upgrade over Charlie Johnson and will give Minnesota much needed stability at the left tackle spot.
They'll need it playing in a division with Clay Matthews, Julius Peppers and the Detroit Lions defensive front.
No way for the Vikings to mess this one up.
4. Cleveland Browns: Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama
5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Morris Claiborne, CB, LSU
6. St. Louis Rams (trade with Washington Redskins): Dontari Poe, DT, Memphis
7. Jacksonville Jaguars: Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma State
8. Miami Dolphins: Ryan Tannehill, QB, Texas A&M
9. Carolina Panthers: Fletcher Cox, DL, Mississippi State
10. Buffalo Bills: Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame
11. Kansas City Chiefs: Luke Kuechly, LB, Boston College
12. Seattle Seahawks: Nick Perry, DE, Southern California
The Seahawks defense was an extremely underrated group in 2011. Ready for some surprising numbers?
They finished seventh in the NFL, allowing a mere 19.7 points per game. Their run defense ranked 15th and their passing defense was 11th in the league.
However, they only mustered 33 sacks during the year.
Think they'd like to add more quarterback takedowns next year?
I do.
Nick Perry is one of the better defensive ends in the 2012 class, with a special combination of size, strength and speed off the snap.
If anyone knows how to get the most out of him, it's Pete Carroll, the guy who coached him at the beginning of his career at USC.
13. Arizona Cardinals: David DeCastro, G, Stanford
14. Dallas Cowboys: Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Alabama
15. Philadelphia Eagles: Michael Brockers, DL, LSU
16. New York Jets: Riley Reiff, OT, Iowa
17. Cincinnati Bengals: Melvin Ingram, DE/OLB South Carolina
18. San Diego Chargers: Courtney Upshaw, DE/OLB Alabama
19. Chicago Bears: Quinton Coples, DE, North Carolina
20. Tennessee Titans: Zach Brown, LB, North Carolina
21. Cincinnati Bengals: Stephon Gilmore, CB, South Carolina
22. Cleveland Browns (from Atlanta): Kendall Wright, WR, Baylor
23. Detroit Lions: Cordy Glenn, OL, Georgia
24. Pittsburgh Steelers: Dont'a Hightower, ILB, Alabama
I can't get over how much of a flawless match Dont'a Hightower to the Pittsburgh Steelers is.
Exquisite.
Sure, Larry Foote and Lawrence Timmons will be penciled in as the starting middle linebackers in the middle of the Steelers' vaunted 3-4 defensive alignment, but Hightower represents fabulous value at this juncture and has the aggressive and thumping style of play that'll be welcomed in the Steel City.
He was the leader of the nation's best defense last season and is a mammoth prospect at 6'2'' and 265 pounds. Plus, he's a great blitzer, too.
Defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau and Steeler Nation will love him.
25. Denver Broncos: Devon Still, DT Penn State
26. Houston Texans: Coby Fleener, TE, Stanford
27. New England Patriots (from New Orleans): Mark Barron, SS, Alabama
28. Green Bay Packers: Andre Branch, DE/OLB, Clemson
29. Baltimore Ravens: Chandler Jones, DE, Syracuse
30. San Francisco 49ers: Kevin Zeitler, G, Wisconsin
31. New England Patriots: Whitney Mercilus, DE, Illinois
32. New York Giants, Jonathan Martin, OT, Stanford
