WrestleMania 28 Results: Loss to The Rock Opens Opportunities for John Cena

Timothy RappJun 7, 2018

Let's be honest—a lot of people have become bored, annoyed or disenfranchised with John Cena. He's the WWE's poster child, but there seems to be a large enough fanbase out there that isn't entirely certain he should be at this point.

Losing to The Rock should change that. It should give Cena the opportunity to do something, well, interesting.

Could they set up a rematch between the two wrestlers, forgoing the whole "once in a lifetime" bit to offer Cena a chance to prove he can become a more iconic wrestler than The Rock?

Could a potential Brock Lesnar return factor into a future Cena storyline? What about the rumored Lord Tensai return?

Or could he turn heel? Wouldn't that sort of be awesome?

An embarrassed Cena decides to demolish everyone in the WWE he deems to be a threat, either in the ring or through interference. He becomes public enemy No. 1, a whirlwind of damaged ego and utter disregard for everyone around him.

Maybe The Rock embarrasses him on Raw tonight, telling the world Cena proved he'd never be a true WWE legend by losing the match, sending Cena into a dark, Evil Cena persona we've yet to see.

It's a thought, and one the many Cena fans probably wouldn't care for. But frankly, it would add the sort of depth to Cena's character his many detractors claim he lacks.

And it could set up a rematch between he and The Rock where Cena wins and The Rock begrudgingly "passes the torch" back to a more compelling and entertaining Cena.

Or Cena could just stay the same. And that would be really boring.
