Roman Reigns to Face LA Knight in WWE World Title Match After Win vs. Penta on Raw
WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns' next opponent has been revealed after he defeated Penta to retain his title in the main event of Monday Night Raw in Mexico City.
After the match, Reigns was attacked by LA Knight and said he accepts the challenge to fight at Money in the Bank:
The win came after a not-so-friendly greeting from the Mexico City crowd, which was clearly rooting for Penta.
Penta had the momentum at times, but Reigns managed to get back into the match no matter how many hits he took.
Earlier this year, Penta became the first Mexican-born professional wrestler to win the WWE Intercontinental Championship. After losing the title at SummerSlam last month, he set his sights on greater pursuits.
AAA general manager Rey Mysterio created an eight-man tournament to determine the challenger for Reigns' title at Raw's historic return to Mexico City for the first time in 15 years, and Penta outlasted a talented field of luchadors to emerge as the No. 1 contender. He defeated Laredo Kid, La Parka and his brother, Rey Fenix, on his way to earning the title shot.
Reigns was coming off a successful title defense against Seth Rollins at SummerSlam, but he acknowledged that Penta's high-flying lucha style presented a challenge he wasn't used to.
In the end, Reigns outlasted the masked Superstar in front of a raucous crowd in Mexico City.
While Penta took the loss, he should remain a key member of the main-event scene on Raw. It could take some work, but he could find his way back to another title shot against Reigns at some point down the line.
