WWE News: Former Champion John Layfield to Climb Seven Peaks on Seven Continents

The Doctor Chris MuellerJun 2, 2018

John Charles Layfield, better known to wrestling fans as John Bradshaw Layfield or simply JBL, did it all in the wrestling business before retiring to Bermuda to play golf and give back to his fans.

It looks like playing golf is no longer the former rassler's only hobby these days. He appears to have taken quite a shine to mountain climbing.

It has been reported that JBL recently told The Sun that he is looking to climb the seven of the world's highest peaks, mainly the highest one on each continent. This accomplishment is referred to as "The Seven Summits."

This will be over a four-year period, and JBL is putting up all of the money to cover the cost of the climbs, with every penny raised through his efforts going to help the children of Bermuda.

This event is being done to benefit the Family Centre. A professional climbing company called Mountain Madness is going to be helping Layfield organize the trips.

The website Beyond Rugby Bermuda features this statement from JBL about his passion for helping kids and the climbing trip.

"

Every kid has a mountain, we encourage them to climb them-step by step. We work with Bermuda's kids on a daily basis helping them realize their dreams and potential. We do our best to lead by example-I'm a 45 year old man who has had a broken back, two herniated discs and nine major surgeries but I am no different from anyone else-we all have our own problems physical or otherwise. Everybody has got rent to pay and everyone has problems, it's what you do with adversity that makes you successful. This is the message we tell kids and the message we live, and the message I want to instill in every young person we work with. This, to me, is the message of the Seven Summits Bermuda Challenge.

"

JBL is truly an incredible human being in several ways. The fact that he is going to do this after all the abuse his body has gone through over the years is one of the more impressive things I have ever heard in my life.

One of the other reasons he is a great man is his devotion to making charitable causes his main focus. Since leaving WWE, he has been helping numerous organizations, but this time he will be trying to help the kids of Bermuda.

It will be very interesting to see if JBL is able to accomplish this goal, something only about 300 people have been able to do to this point.

The seven peaks he will be climbing are Mt. Elbrus in Russia, Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Carstensz in Indonesia, Acongua in Argentina, Denali in Alaska, Vinson in Antarctica, and of course Mt. Everest, which lies between China and Nepal.

He plans to plant a Bermudan flag on each peak as well.

I would like to wish JBL the best of luck on his quest. Your fans hope you come back safely so you can return to SmackDown and save us from Michael Cole.
