WWE WrestleMania in Ireland Pitched by Local Councillor amid Nashville Bid, Location Rumors

A politician is making a public push for Ireland to throw its hat in the proverbial ring as a potential future destination for WWE WrestleMania.

According to Oisín Doherty of the Irish Mirror, Kilkenny councillor Maurice Shortall has gone on record with why he believes Ireland would be a suitable host country for the biggest event in pro wrestling.

"Ireland is well placed to present a credible and competitive bid for WrestleMania, given our strong international tourism brand, proven track record in hosting major events, and global reputation as a welcoming destination," Shortall said.

Shortall also expressed his belief that WrestleMania could be hugely beneficial to Ireland because of its "capacity to attract tens of thousands of international visitors and generate substantial international media exposure."

While Shortall did not provide a specific timeline for when he would like to see WrestleMania come to Ireland, WWE is already preparing for the first WrestleMania to ever be held outside the United States or Canada.

Next year's WrestleMania 43 will take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, perhaps opening the door for other overseas locations to enter the fray as well.

However, if Ireland wants to vie for WrestleMania 44 in 2028, it will reportedly have some competition in the form of Nashville, Tennessee.

Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer Live (h/t WrestlePurists) reported last week that Nashville submitted a bid of $3.5 million plus tax breaks in an effort to secure WrestleMania 44.

If Nashville's bid is accepted, WrestleMania 44 would almost certainly be held at the Tennessee Titans' New Nissan Stadium, which is set to open next year.

Should Ireland ever make a true run at hosting WrestleMania, it would likely do so with the idea that Croke Park in Dublin would be the venue since it can accommodate over 80,000 fans for sporting events.
