New York Jets 2012: How Tebow Fits into the Rex Ryan Offense
The New York Jets acquired quarterback Tim Tebow from the Denver Broncos on Wednesday. This comes just weeks after the Jets signed current QB Mark Sanchez to a contract extension.
Denver, more specifically John Elway, didn't like the "baggage" that comes along with Tebow. Through no real fault of his own, Tim Tebow has created a monster. He is, and has been since his Gator days, a media darling. The circus that follows this guy is pretty ridiculous.
It will only get bigger (worse) in a city like New York. The media will be all over Tebow from the time he walks into the practice facility. If you know anything about Jets coach Rex Ryan, this adds up. He is always making brash comments to the media, even guaranteeing his team will win Super Bowls before the season, which so far hasn't happened.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Ryan was probably salivating when he saw Peyton Manning sign with the Broncos, because he knew Tebow would be dealt and the price tag would be a bargain. I don't expect Tebow to be taking Sanchez's job, but Ryan will most likely add to the Jets' wildcat offense in order to allow Tebow to be on the field more.
Let's not kid ourselves, the Jets have had one of the most unstable locker rooms in the NFL for the last few seasons. Basically, since Ryan took over as head coach. I know why he would want Tebow around, but from a front-office perspective, who better to help control a locker room than Tim Tebow?
That's not to say that Tebow will instantly make the Jets a stable franchise, but his presence should help. His work ethic and off-the-field ethics are well documented, and it might rub off on some of his new teammates.
Another thing to think about is the fact that New York has such high hopes for Mark Sanchez, but thus far in his career, he hasn't done much. He also has the reputation of being somewhat of a pretty boy, maybe caring too much about his image and his photo shoots, and not enough on being a better quarterback. He has mildly improved each season since being drafted No. 5 overall in 2009, but fans would like to see him get better quicker. When you are a QB taken in the top five of the draft, you are expected to be a top-tier player by year four, which is 2012 for Sanchez.
Adding Tebow to the roster brings competition to the QB position. Tebow is the backup, but you know he won't be playing or practicing like the backup. Having a guy like Tebow going at 110 percent every time he takes a snap makes Sanchez do the same. Anyone who thinks Sanchez has not been trying hard enough to be a better QB can look at this trade as a wake-up call for the young leader of the Jets.
Sanchez will be forced to play better. If he falters, or doesn't improve, New York fans will be chanting Tebow pretty quickly.
From a competitiveness standpoint, adding Tebow makes the Jets tougher for opposing teams to prepare for. With usually under a week to prepare for games during the season, teams will have to game-plan for Tebow and the wildcat offense. This takes time away from preparing for the running and passing game.
The Jets will probably not make Tebow and the wildcat a focal point of their offense, but it will allow the team to change the pace of games, and give Sanchez and Ryan time to make adjustments.
Will adding Tebow actually translate to more wins in 2012? I doubt it. It will, however, make Sanchez take being the QB more seriously, and that might equal more wins.
More wins will be nice, but this team needs to win a Super Bowl. Ryan has been promising Jets fans one since he arrived, it's about time he steps up and actually delivers.
