New York Jets Make One Giant Mistake in Trading for Tim Tebow
Mark Sanchez, you may want to start looking at your rear view mirror. Tim Tebow and the millions of rabid Tebow-ite fans are going to be right behind you.
News is coming in that the New York Jets have acquired the popular yet widely inconsistent quarterback and 2012 seventh round draft pick for 2012 fourth round and sixth round draft picks.
If you look at the transaction itself, the Jets are not giving up much for a player that did lead his team to the playoffs last year and had numerous dramatic fourth quarter comebacks.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
But the stats are there for everyone to see. For his career, Tebow has completed just 47.3% of his passes and has thrown for just 103 yards per game in 23 starts and appearances. In two games against the Kansas City Chiefs last year, he went a combined 8 for 30 for 129 yards, yet somehow won one of those contests.
Tebow will be arriving in a city with fans still smarting over how inept their offense was in 2011. Though former Miami Dolphins coach Tony Sparano has taken over the helm at offensive coordinator, the team has made little to no changes in offensive personnel except for today's trade with Tebow.
He will also be coming to a team that has a supposed franchise quarterback in Mark Sanchez, who despite his poor numbers just signed a lucrative contract extension. As quoted in this ESPN article, Sanchez was now virtually guaranteed to start even though nearly 70% of people said in a fan poll that this was a bad move for the Jets.
Now to compound those doubts will be Tim Tebow arriving to to the Big Apple. Do you think the boos Sanchez heard were bad last year? They're going to be exponentially worse in 2012 with Tebow standing on the sidelines waiting for the opportunity.
And what if that opportunity does come? Tebow is coming to one of the most aggressive media markets that will not be nearly as kind nor forgiving to the treatment he received in Denver. New York is a win now city and doesn't enjoy moral victories.
For the Denver Broncos and John Elway, they're dancing in the streets. They managed to sign Peyton Manning and trade off Tim Tebow in a 24 hour period. Someone may want to pinch Elway now who everyone knew was just looking for the right opportunity and excuse to dispatch without Denver fans wanting to picket the team facility.
For New York, this move has disaster written all over it. Tebow enters a completely dysfunctional locker room that has been ripped publicly and also behind the curtain of anonymity. He also will have a brash head coach in Rex Ryan who has gone from the darling of New York to someone who may be on the hot seat if the Jets miss the playoffs again.
And then you have Mark Sanchez. The guy has clearly had confidence issues since he's come into the NFL. All you need to do is read his body language. Now, he'll not only have Tim Tebow sitting behind him, but tens of millions of people demanding he be inserted into the lineup.
It would be one thing if this were Tom Brady, Drew Brees or even Peyton's brother Eli. Fans would realize that Tebow would be there to run special packages and probably be used as a running and receiving threat at times.
With the Jets, the cries of Tebow taking every snap will get louder for ever ball March Sanchez throws high, low or wide or worse yet, in the hands of the opposition.
Congratulations Mike Tannenbaum, you've made the sideshow circus in New York even worse.
