Ramon Sessions to Lakers: Trade Analysis, Grade and Twitter Reaction
Well, the Los Angeles Lakers finally got their point guard.
After toiling under Derek Fisher and Steve Blake this season, the Lakers traded for Ramon Sessions on Thursday right before the deadline.
Brian Windhorst of ESPN reported:
"Cavs send Ramon Sessions & Christian Eyenga for Luke Walton & 2012 Lakers first rounder. LAL gets right to swap '13 1st rounder w/Heat pick
— Brian Windhorst (@WindhorstESPN) March 15, 2012"
That's not all. Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports tweeted that Derek Fisher will no longer be a Laker:
"Let's fix this: The Lakers have traded Derek Fisher and a 2012 first-round pick (via Dallas) for Jordan Hill, league sources tell Y!
— Adrian Wojnarowski (@WojYahooNBA) March 15, 2012"
Grade: A-
The Lakers did have to give up a first-round pick, which is something they probably wanted to avoid, but they desperately needed a point guard and Sessions is a good one. He's not the best defensive player, but he'll be worlds better for the Lakers on offense. He's a playmaker who can inject life into the team.
Plus, the Lakers somehow found a way to get rid of Luke Walton.
Twitter Reaction
Elliott Teaford, Lakers beat writer for the Daily Breeze and Los Angeles Newspaper Group, tweeted:
"Well, this is a head-spinner of a day. Ramon Sessions to the #Lakers; Derek Fisher from LAL to the Rockets. LAL also dumps Luke Walton. Wow.
— Elliott Teaford (@ElliottTeaford) March 15, 2012"
A Celtics fan who goes by the name of Kobe Bryant spread a little hate to Lakers Nation:
"So the lakers are about to win a title because they got Ramon sessions?
— Kobe Bryant (@iHateOnTweets) March 15, 2012"
Bleacher Report's own Tom Kinslow touched on what has become a bittersweet moment for Lakers fans:
"Odd seeing Derek Fisher traded. One of the great #Lakers. Best of luck, class act.
— Tom Kinslow (@TomKinslow) March 15, 2012"
Royce Webb of ESPN spotlighted the organization's mindset these days:
"Lakers not sentimental. Fisher gone, Odom gone, tried to trade Pau. Remember this if Kobe starts slipping. Amnesty possible.
— Royce Webb, ESPN NBA (@RoyceWebb) March 15, 2012"
One thing's for sure: The Lakers are looking to get younger and better, and are refusing to remain stagnant. That should make Lakers fans feel good.
